User Rating: 9.7 | Ratchet & Clank (Platinum) PS2
Ratchet and Clank is game that defies the typical platformer. This game breaks with problems in games like Spyro the Dragon. The graphics for this type of game are great. The sound perfectly matches the game. The voicing, characters, and plot are all superb. This is the first game that allows users to have lots of weapons and gadgets. In Spyro you had a camera that was really annoying, because it whenever you would get near any corner it would react by going wild. This was annoying when you were on a huge cliff and it would cause you to fall off. This was fixed in Ratchet and Clank because I have never had a problem like that again where I would get near a drop and fall because I couldn’t see the end. The music unlike Spyro with it’s almost carnival like unnervingly upbeat music that almost never changed, Ratchet and Clank’s (hereby known as RC) music changes a lot and planet to planet. For instant I’ll be on a rather dark planet and I’ll here darker music or I’ll be on a planet like Eudora and here rather chipper music that suit the environment. In Spyro you had this annoying voice for Spyro that would just manage to tick me off somehow. In RC you have Ratchet, Clank, and all the other lesser characters have perfectly matching voices. This is a key ingredient of all good games (I mean you can’t have a girl do some powerful wrestlers voice can you?). Without this I feel that the game would have lost its powerful perfect effect if the voices weren’t just right. In other games you might have a grenade and a gun or something. In this game you have the pyrocitor, the walloper, the devastator, the RYNO, the Visibomb, the blaster, and tons more. You also have plenty of gadgets like the hydrodisplacer, the slingshot, and the gadgetron PDA. This is a point that sets this game apart from others. In other words it’s more fun to be able to blow things up 20 ways. Also another fact is that you can buy gold weapons which are way better than the normal ones.
