Grab some bolts and help Ratchet & Clank in this video review with Tom Mc Shea.
Thanks God I didn't buy this crap. I waited hours to download the 17GB and I feel like deleting it already. Ugly graphics, horrible isometric view, boring. I checked because I thought is was a PS2 HD remaster, go figure.
Well I must admit this is the first Rachet & Clank game I've really played, since I got it free with PS+ earlier this month. Just beat it with a friend and I don't think it was that bad, pretty good actually. I would give it at least an 8 personally.
But if the general consensus here is that this one is like the worst in the series, I can only imagine how great and high a standard these games have been setting. This is why I think PS+ is such a great advantage to me, because it gives me exposure to games that I wouldn't have otherwise went out of my way to try out.
Can anyone help me,,, i cannot use the online pass activation code... I am from malaysia... is that because i need to register from US? Thanks
WTF, they ruined it! For a R&C, this is really diminishing for the franchise. It ain't broke, don't fix it, the games were great the way they were (although a competitive UYA-style multiplayer would've been a nice return), they didn't have to completely screw it up by turning it into some lame party game!
I enjoyed this game, I have beaten it with ratchet and am playing as clank. I did it all in single player and it was still pretty fun. Co-op is really fun though, things are more frantic and you fight for bolts
I had a feeling this will be the worse Ratchet and Clank game. I have all of them.
I had a feeling this game wouldn't be as great as the others. Still looks amazing in its own right though.
TomMcShea said: "@Johny_47, Which parts of my review do you consider nit-picky?" The fixed camera, it's your opinion being the reviewer obviously =P BUT the Ratchet & Clank games have always had very nice and cool looking environments and backgrounds and this gameplay showed that off even though you said the camera wasn't good. Everything else with your review is really good, hope you do more of the reviews, Battlefield 3 for one =)
Gelugon_baat said: "@Johny_47 Being nit-picky is not a bad thing, I say. In fact, I say that he should be nit-picking; personally, I prefer reviewers that are harsh and don't cut any games any slack. Games are not people, after all - they are products." I say differently =P And games, films and music etc(when they're good) are a way for the artists to 'express' themselves so no I don't think nit picking at them is a good thing especially when there's very little to complain about. Seems like alot of people just try to find bad little things with things even if they like em overall JUST to complain =/
The zoomed out view was to correct the problem that plagues all co-op games. That is people being left behind or falling off the screen. lets face it you are probably playing with people who have different abilities and the camera is awesome because it corrects that issue. Also having that tether feature is great because whether you are a good player or just average after paying this game the tether will save your butt. Those to features, the camera and the tether really make the game quite playable and enjoyable!
@eyerok, Regardless of why they chose the zoomed-out view, it negatively impacts the experience. The shift in perspective and controls transforms a phenomenal shooter into mindless action.
@Gelugon_baat i apologize for the insensitive remarks i made earlier. It was careless of me. I understand that you have just as much right to state your idea's as anybody else. I got carried away in heat of the debate. It was unfair of me to call you out and again i deeply apologize.
I don't really care about the review...It doesn't really matter if it had 1/10 or 10/10...I am gonna buy it this Friday...Even the most mediocre R&C game would deserve more than some COD crap!
@TomMcShea I like your review, but I don't think i get this one criticism relating to camera. As a coop game that ditches the split screen (rightfully so, in my opinion), the camera couldn't have been any other way. And the thing with the weapon upgrade system might just be a minor hindrance, although i haven't played the game yet of-course.
Just picked this up. The review seems spot on. Funny dialogue, great platforming, and good variety. The shooting however, not so great. It's not just that it's different. It feels stunted, less of a challenge.
There already has been a co-op ratchet and clank game (Gladiator) you could play as a big version of clank that in my opinion worked really well while remaining true to the franchise they should have done it like that in my opinion however i do still like all 4 one and think the ideas in this game are great but and i am looking forward to what adventure ratchet and clank goes on next.
to all the reviewers, do it right..oh come on, 7.0? really? to the INSOMNIAC, read the "GAMERS" review
Really bad timing from Sony releasing this the same day as Arkham City: I had totally forgotten about this game. Not that I'm a big R&C mark and would have gotten it if it were released on a different day.
@TomMcShea, I understand what you are saying Tom but I just got the feeling from your review that you wanted more of what the series was before and in my opinion that caused your score to be lower. We new going into his game that it was going to be different and it wasn't going to be your typical R&C game. I am not here to bash you, even though my first comment in this thread was not kind.I have been reading your reviews for awhile and I just find them to not be of the quality that this site was built on. I find myself going away from this site to get reviews from other sites(Giantbomb, IGN, 1up and GI) that i feel give a better review. I guess i will leave it at that, I am sure you are trying your best and not just mailing it in but I just don't find your reviews to be all that good. I wish you the best and maybe one day I'll come back and read one of your reviews and my opinion will change but for now I will stay away, GL!
Thanks, Insomniac! Thank you for ruining one of the best platformer series of all time with multiplayer! And also for a SINCERE thanks -- Thank you Rocksteady Studios for refusing to add Multiplayer to Arkham City and thus deliverring one of the best games of this generation. Developers, take note -- you sell out to the multiplayer casual crowd and your insecurities, and you FAIL. You have the confidence to stick to your visions, you create vastly supeior products. Sad, this.
@hallgren, I agree that I shouldn't mark down a sequel merely for being different. And, in the past, I have played games that were very different (Nuts and Bolts, Other M) that I rated highly because, on their own terms, they were great games. The changes in Ratchet make for a less enjoyable experience, though. It's still really fun (as I noted) but no where near the quality of Crack in Time.
As usual people too dumb to pay attention to the content of the review rather than just the score. Also as usual people claiming the reviewer is wrong without having played the game. Nothing ever changes around here.
I know I have been critical of a lot of his reviews and I will agree they didn't need to change the upgrade system but that isn't a hinderance to your progression it's just different. Also i agree that it would have been nice to be able to switch the lockon option but i think the devs wanted to keep it random. That being said my main problem is you can't review a game based on the past games because this is a 4 player co-op game. sure it's going to be different because fundamentally a 4 player game and a single player game are going to be different. With such a high level of polish, tight controls that work well, the crazy weapons this game is just pure fun.Especially when you are playing with 4 other people there is so much crazyness going on the screen, plus the competitve part to win each round and getting bonuses for doing cooperative tasks together keep everything fresh. I love the game so far it might not be for everyone but the score to me is just too low. People say you shouldn't worry about a review score and i don't when it comes to a game i want but at the same time all of these scores get averaged together in metacritic and i would just like to see some of his reviews though out a little more before they get posted! Just my two cents!
Good review. It's disappointing that the shooting doesn't look that fun, considering the shooting in previous games was pretty fun.The platforming and puzzles look fun though,so hopefully they can make up for it.
I'd give it a 7 as well... perhaps a 7.5. I've been a R&C fan since the demo disc of the first game. I knew this was going to be a bit disappointing, but I had to preorder it anyways. I REALLY hope this isn't the last game though. GC>UYA>1>ToD>ACiT>D>A41(>Q4B)
"Oh Janice" hahaha =P Decent review but still a bit 'nit picky', need to stop with that gamespot, it's already old =/ I want to play this but I'm not as excited about it as I am with the regular Ratchet & Clank games.
Co-op based RnC? No thanks. What i would like to see, is a return of some of the goofy splitscreen versus multiplayer fun we had on the PS2. Personally they're a bit too similiar going singleplayer mode only, but this mix? No thanks, not gonna buy it.
I never bought a Ratchet and Clank game EVER and I do no see the bruhaha of its public review results. Example Resistance 3, it got an 8 score at gamespot, days later I am still playing it until now and level 50 in competitive multiplayer as of this writing. I thought I'd never got the same satisfaction in a game since 2008 when DICE released the first Bad Company game. Bottomline is PPL shouldnt be SHEEPLS. A review is just preference from the reviewer based on his point of view. For skeptics I suggest just renting the game, If you love it, have resources and decide to add in your library then buy it. No harm done, live and let live as Kevin V.Ord once said.
This game looks better then I thought it was going to be. I don't really mind the changes in the weapon upgrade system. But, it would have been sweet to give the player the option between that and the old leveling up system.
