Just like any other fishing game, but with PS3 graphics.

User Rating: 6.5 | Rapala Fishing Frenzy PS3
Rapala Fishing Frenzy 2009 is a rather dull game. It looks great. The fish are pretty realistic, as well as the water and the surroundings. There are a few glitches with the reeling. For example, sometimes if a fish is approaching, the camera will start to swing around in dizzying circles. This could cause you to miss your chance to hook a fish or if you have motion sickness, it can make you sick.
Too many things go on at once while trying to real in a fish. Not only do you have to hold down a button to reel, but you are also tossing the controller left and right or up and down for special bonus points. This is a rather stupid concept, as all real fishing tournaments are about the combined weight of fish.
The environments are also limited. You only have limited area to fish. The fish gather at "hot spots" which you can see on the map. Again this is dumb. Sure it makes the game easier, but it makes it boring that the fish are all in one place rather then at random locations. It spoils the potential challenge of finding good spots to fish.
There are also no CPUs during tournament challenges. Some competition would be nice, especially since there is no online play. Beating the game on all modes is quite easy, and for each level (easy, medium and hard) the challenges barely change. There could be a slight increase in the goal, but that's about it.
Lure action is also terrible. There is no variance between the lure movement. They also don't snag, which in a way is good I suppose.
The background music is also annoying. It does not change with the environment. It gets irritating after a few minutes of playing.
Overall, if your going to try this game or want to buy it, rent it first. It's not really the kind of game you want to waste $20-$40 on.
