Great fun for RANMA fans, everybody else wil find it falls flat. Who did the artwork on the box, anyway?...

The interesting thing about this game is the only reason I ever linked the game to the anime was because of the ads Viz Video had for it on their VHS tapes. I remember seeing the box sitting on the shelf at Electronics Boutique AGES before I saw the ad, and thinking, "man, that art's pathetic, can't be a very good game if they'd let art like that be on the box". Of course, once I realized that was supposed to be Ranma and Ryoga on the box, I went ahead & bought the game - luckily it was already marked for clearance at that time. The company (DTMC, I believe) picked up a great title with lots of potential & seriously dropped the ball. The controls aren't very responsive - special attacks seemed to lag about 3 seconds after the correct buttons were mashed, and the character designs are kind of weak (I could never shake the feeling Girl-type Ranma was really Raggedy Ann with PMS). There is some fun to be had with the game; it was nice having Akane finally get some licks in for a change, and even poor ol' Mousse got his chance to spank Shampoo, but if you want a decent SNES fighting game, stick to STREET FIGHTER.
