An old but classic game, still holding some perks.

Well firstly I have played this game for years, spanning on and off since 2003. The grand scope of the game has changed drastically since those times with the introduction of reborn / transcendence classes and ofcause renewal content recently released.

For some this is great, for others its a game break.

The levelling system in the game has a base level and job level. The base level supplies stats for you to spend to develop your characters build, these can be spent in either strength, agility, intellect, dexterity or luck. Depending on your chosen class each will benefit differently from stats spent.

The job level supplies you with talent points to spend on skills and change your class.

The good points.

Even though ragnarok online is an old game, the graphics have aged well and in some cases still do the game justice. The player is a 2D sprite in a 3D world.

PVP is very fast paced; i never enjoyed the battlegrounds as there is a very large imbalance between certain classes resulting in people one shotting or dominating though very powerful gear, even with these minor points the game holds a very unique style of game play "war of emperium", this is a server wide battle for a castle where guilds fight for control of an emperium (a heart of the castle) once taken / destroyed the guild becomes the rightful owner and must defend it for a set period of time.

The class system is vast with multiple choices. Every new player starts off as a novice, as you kill monsters (or in some cases do quests) you raise a base and job level. When you reach job level 10 - you can start the quest to become your "first class". Swordsman, Mage, Archer, Acolyte, Merchant. And further branch from here at job level 40.

The bad

Ragnarok holds a very unforgiving curve to custom character builds, a custom build not following the "trend" will often be under powered and shadowed in PVP.

Aged game, even with the renewal process on the game it has helped bring the game in some ways to a new modern standard (such as the levelling curse is much smaller) while this is good, the game is still very grind based (killing monsters over and over).

Overall this game is worth a try if you enjoy relaxed paced anime inspired games.
