Fun, but a bit disappointing.

Well, first things first the visuals. The lighting is very impressive, and overall I find the graphics to be decent, but it is not jaw dropping graphics here guys. To be brutally honest, for PC games, the textures are total crap. I dont know what it is about Id and their plastic covered with vaseline looking textures ever since Doom 3 they have looked that way. I hate to nit pick but honestly the textures are pretty bad, from a distance they look good, but get up a little closer and they just have no definition at all.

The world, while full of personality is a bit static, you shoot things and nothing happens, bottles dont explode etc, just one of those things that in a game thats taken years to make, and you pay 60 bux for I would have hoped a bit more polish had been spent on the little things. The world is large though, however the size is more for the accommodation of the vehicles, as their really isnt much to explore in fact aside from the occasional sewer nothing really. The enemies all look good, and are fun to kill so thats good.

Now, the controls, as far as the 1st person aspects go its good, very good even, HOWEVER the FOV is pretty atrocious, this can be solved by editing cfg, or launch options via steam but if you dont do that, it feels very tight, very claustrophobic. But the 1st person aspects are pretty spot on. The driving on the other hand is annoying. The steering is jerky, you can not free look with the mouse which is hugely annoying you auto target your enemies while in your vehicle. The ability to freely look and target your enemies from within your vehicles seems like it would have been a much MUCH better choice.

It might sound like I am being pretty hard on the game, im not intending to be, I am enjoying myself playing it. However I do feel it could have been a heck of a lot more than what it is. There are definitely RPG elements but they kind of left the best parts of an RPG out of it, and just put in the fetch quests aspects of an RPG. If there had been some sort of rudimentary character development it would have done wonders for the game. There is an attempt at a loot system but it is largely meaningless, there is a set number of weapons and thats that no real variety to speak off, different ammo types but nothing thats gonna impress you much. Again, they should have put more effort into it, I mean they make this large world, a long game, and then didnt quite flesh it out enough IMO.

My god honest recommendation is, its worth buying, however you might wanna wait till there is a sale on steam. I pre ordered and I dont regret it, but I find myself playing a game that is very reminiscent of an RPG but doesnt quite have the drawing in power of an RPG. Its supposed to be this jaw droppingly gorgeous game, and while the lighting is fantastic, the textures are atrocious. It took id this long to make this?.........
