How am I supposed to beat Elwen with Jack? Whenever I find an opening for around 20 damage, she hits back for 400. I am only fighting at night and when I try to release a 10 volty sword strike, she hits me and it cancels. I was lucky enough 1 time to get her to loose 500 hp, but she then used her volty and only 9 lives saved me. It doesn't seem to work more than 1 time per battle though, because on her next volty blast, she slaughtered me. Even on my non-human run, I couldn't kill her with 3 allies and I was around the same level then. Any strategys?

    BTW, Jack has ~1500hp.

Funny how two different questions are related. Equip the Skill Full Power if possible and use a Volty Blast with your strongest weapon. Then use a Tsuchinoko Dumpling and use a Volty Blast again. This should beat her outright.

If you don’t have any dumplings start with a Full Power volty blast. (After this switch out volty blast with another skill.) Use a weapon that can attack quickly. Do not stand and fight her. Instead you should attack once (twice if you feel lucky) and move. Bait her into starting her combo by moving near her (not too close) and then move to her side for an attack. She shouldn’t use her volty blast right away. She usually buffs herself instead giving you valuable time to try and defeat her.

    I'll try this. Thanks . I need to find a dumpling D:.

Tsuchinoko Dumplings are found in three ways:

    1) tossing a sage at a tsuchinoko whenever you encounter it
    2) in the final dungeon
    3) in the second part of the bonus dungeon

Is the final dungeon the end of the world? I guess I can wait until the games end before I use [s]god[/s] Elwen

Yep, the final dungeon is "The End of The World".

There are two Dumplings in chests in the bonus dungeon. One in the Dragon Lair Cave and one in the distortion Corridor.

I may just try to hit and run instead. Even if Elwen buffs, her volty will come soon enough, and I will have to pray that my Nine lives works.

You should also try buffing up to over 1900 HP. For some reason, whenever I get that high, she never uses her volty, and if she does, you should be able to survive it. Also, I am usually around level 65 before I can take her on the human path, so maybe that could help you too.

My strategy is to use a Volty blast as soon as the fight begins, and then just block and attack the rest of the fight. Only one or two strikes at a time. It's boring, but it's effective.

She tends to break my blocks. Also, how much does the HP Max plus raise for you at 5 star? I only have it at 1 star now, but I will raise it as soon as I know. Also, are there any big hp plus bangles? I haven't found any...

Oh yeah, and although this is off topic, I wonder, will I be able to beat Nyx if I can beat Elwen? Also, do I have to fight Kain and Curtis or do they join automatically if I get all of the guild members?
  • Sep 1, 2008 6:51 am GMT
1.) HP Plus will give a boost of 300 when maxed according to Ripclaw's FAQ.
2.) The better HP boosting accessory, the Life Bangle, is only dropped/stolen by a boss in the bonus dungeon.
3.) Nyx is a lot easier than Elwen. He doesn't string together his attacks as quickly as Elwen does and you can dodge them better. He can still cause a fair amount of damage if you underestimate him though.
4.) Kain and Curtis will join automatically once you have recruited their respective guild members, no dueling them involved.

I've read that you can block Elwen's Volty Blast if you have Fierce Defence maxed and equipped. You still get hit but guarding will reduce the damage of it.

I guess I will level to 65 to get ~1800 hp and then put on fierce defence. I will have to make lots of money to get herb extract DX and maxes though. Thanks for the help everyone.

I haven't tested it yet but I plan on doing this method after this, once I've tested it I'll tell you how it goes anyway the method I'm talking about is the one you use to recruit gerald and nocturne if you didn't do the cheap leveling tactic which is mission 19 of the spear training dummy so you can beat them fairly,of course I mean the cheap shot that is toadstool powder, the way this method works is you lock in on who you're fighting, use a toadstool powder hold the analog stick forward and because you're running circles around the enemy(I mean this quite literally)they don't move, what's not moving mean when you've got a status affect on mean? that's right it won't just go away they stay like that untilthey're dead, this method gets you a no damage battle with gerald, nocturne and if my suspicions are right this includes every other character in the game(excluding dragons including swome bosses),the sucker punch of radiata stories is and will always be toadstool powder
once I beat the human path I plan on making a start strong file so I can see if you can beat gerald when you first fight him at vancoor,so yeah time to go see if I can sucker punch elwen

The Toadstool Powder trick won't work on Elwen. She is immune to all status problems. There are multiple characters with resistances or immunities to status problems.

Sorry for the double post but the first fight with Gerald is not winnable. He has ??? hp making him invincible.

Yeah, I did the toadstool power on elwen, but I eventually figured after blowing about 50 of them (at least 20 of them hit) that she was immune

    1) Don't stand and attack. Hit-and-run instead.
    2) Don't approach Elwen too much. Let her come to you. She's unlikely to use her volty blast if you don't assault her too much. Instead she will use it to increase her defense.
    3) It'll take a long time, but eventually you'll get 100 VP. Equip Full Power skill and use your strongest volty blast with your best weapon.
    4) Fight her at night.
    5) Bring lots of healing items and watch out for her deadly combos >.<

^ elwen uses her volty so long as it can kill you it's got nothing to do with if you hit her,it has to do with if she hits you
