Radiant Silvergun is one of those games that will make you rip your hair out and continue playing.

Radiant Silvergun for the Sega Saturn is, put simply, one of the best shooters ever. It was released one month after the arcade version.
Just as any other space shooter, there is a menacing villain and some story you really do not play a space shooter for. The game features an Arcade Mode, where the player can skip all the story elements found in Saturn Mode, except for the ending.
The player controls a ship, named the Radiant Silvergun. The game differs from other scrolling shooters in that there are no power ups. The player can use any of the weapons at anytime with the push of a different button.
Each of the weapons levels up depending on how often the player uses them to defeat enemies, giving them more power and such upgrades.
Most of the fun of Radiant Silvergun comes from its sheer difficulty. It is entirely possible to level up your weapons wrong and have the rest of the game impossible to complete with your current weapon configuration. The screen is usually teeming with bullets, missiles, and lasers to dodge while attempting to kill enemies. An interestingly challenging part of Radiant Silvergun is the colored enemies. Enemies are red, blue, or yellow and the game rewards the player by leveling up your weapons faster and getting bigger score bonuses by killing one color of enemies all in a row. This feature introduces additional memorization to Radiant Silvergun.
Overall, Radiant Silvergun is a game that every Saturn owner should own, no matter the cost.
