This game is just plain fun to play.
The game has 4 team for you to choose from: R.C Micro Mouse Mappy (easy), Pac Racing Club (normal), Racing Team Solvalou (hard), & Dig Racing Team (expert). There are 2 modes of handling: drift handling & whereas grip handling, drift handling is the player oversteers in a turn & slides the car around that corner, whereas grip is alot more realistic employing more brake & not powerslideing at all.
The main story line is that you are in the Real Racing Roots '99'' trying to win the Grand Prix & win the championship, there is a total of 4 stages for you to pass in order to win the game.
The first stage are 2 qualifying races that you must pass in either in 1st, 2nd , or 3rd place & if you finish 1st in those races you gat a new car on whoever team your in & it will keep going till your at the final race or you finish in a another place.
The second stage are 2 quarter-final races that you must finish in 1st or 2nd place if you want to get into the last 2 stages in the game.
The third stage are 3 semi-final races that you now must finish in 1st place and ONLY 1st place if you want a super fast car in the final stage.
The forth stage is the FINAL race on New Year's Eve & if you finish in first place in all of the previous stages, your going to get a special car in the final race on whoever team your in & if you win, you won the Grand Prix & beaten the game.
There are a total of 320 race cars for you to unlock, that means you have to race every team, every manufacturer, & finish first place in every race, not only that if you unlock all 320 cars, you get the Pac-Man car to drive in quick race or two player, the game has only have around 8 tracks for you to choose from.
This is the first game in the Ridge Racer series to have two player split-screen mode so you, a friend or family member to race against each other. Its also one of the first games to have gouraud shading on the polygons.
Long story short, this game is a classic to the PlayStation & it will be for future generations to come.
