Ever played one of those games which you begin to use as a standard for games you play later?
This is one of those games.
For a game released way back in 1999, the graphics sure are impressive.
Even though I only care mostly for the gameplay, not the graphics, I was pleasantly surprised after playing this game because I didn't expect the visuals to be very good.
The game just sucks you in.
Its a top notch FPS with a good variety of weapons that are fun to use to blow up the bots's or your friends's brains out.
You have plenty of character models to select from, even though all of them aren't that great.
There's aliens, beefy looking guys, slim dudes, women, you get the idea.
The single player mode will keep you distracted from the multiplayer, but not for long. If you've played fragging games before, you know how much fun it is to play these games against friends.
Quake III Arena makes it even better.
The action is adrenaline-pumping and starts with a bang (literally), thanks to not-very-large-maps.
I loved the game.
You should try it, at least once.

Quake 3 Arena marks a shift in id's focus onto competitive multiplayer, but it retains most of id's traditions.
