A decent offline chess game.

It's pretty slim chess pickings for the PS3 and this is probably as good as it gets for the North American market.

Its better than the mini Cohort Chess, lets get that out of the way.

However, its got a couple issues that hold it back.

First, it's got no real online multi-player. You can play a game online by mail. I'm serious. Ridiculous.

You can play a friend offline but really, if you like chess, you've got a real set and why wouldn't you use that instead.

Another problem, for me at least, is that you can't get a locked overhead view. You can temporarily tilt the view with the right stick but you can't get an overhead view like you get in the newspaper chess puzzles.

The play screen has a bunch of info around the edges that you can't disable and it would have been nice to able to disable that.

It's got some chess puzzles and tournaments that should keep you busy for a while but at the end of the day, it's just an average chess game.


Addendum: With updates, you can now have a locked overhead view. Nice to see the developers making the change. I'd still like to see the ability to have an overhead view with standard chess piece icons instead of the top view of the stylized pieces.
