EndWar declared on PSP, DS Nov. 4

Ubisoft reveals turn-based handheld editions of Tom Clancy-inspired strategy game will launch alongside PS3, 360 games.

Nigh on a year ago, a product page for Tom Clancy's End War on the Nintendo DS popped up in GameStop's online database. However, with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions out November 4, and no word since then from Ubisoft, it might have been assumed that a handheld edition had been discharged before making it out of boot camp.

As it would turn out, not only is that not the case, but a Nintendo DS and PSP version of the game will deploy alongside their console counterparts in two weeks. The handheld editions were developed by Germany-based Funatics Software, who previously had a hand in Ubisoft's The Settlers strategy franchise.

Instead of the real-time strategy gameplay of their console siblings, EndWar on handhelds will feature turn-based tactics. However, unlike in traditional turn-based strategy titles, in EndWar, players will conduct their move and attack phases simultaneously.

Ubisoft also noted that handheld generals will be afforded three single-player campaigns, where gamers will take command of the US Joint Strike Force, the European Enforcers Corps, and the Russian Spetsnaz Guards Brigade. Each campaign contains more than 30 pitched battles in real-world locations such as Paris and London. The game also includes one-on-one multiplayer matches, where players can compete in 100 different premade scenarios. Ubisoft also promises a mission editor, where players can create their own custom maps that can be played solo or in multiplayer mode.

Argh, I was hoping that the PSP version would be like the console version...but maybe that was a little unrealistic. Oh well, hopefully this will be a good game. =]

@lowenergycycle: What an amazingly quick misunderstanding. I am 100% in favor of all Military Madness clones. The more the better. The map editor is already better than Military Madness for the PS. -However much you are excited for this game, me twice as much.

"Advance Wars is a straight up clone of Military Madness. And so is EndWar DS."

No offence intended, but how would you know? EndWar isn't even finished yet.

And as far this post states, EndWar features a dual-phase aspect that neither Advance Wars nor Military Madness employ.

So to be picky, and in light of the different play mechanics of your examples, it's fundamentally a different game. After all, we all know that a dual-phase approach would make for a completely different playing experience (we do, don't we?...)

I for one am quite excited by it, especially after so many versions of Famicom/Advance Wars that followed a very similar template.

You can happily revile me if EndWar is nothing but an Advance Wars clone.

@mddg_mmcc: Oh snap! I didn't know about Famicom Wars because it only came out in Japan? -But, there are dramatic differences between Famicom Wars and Military Maddness. -Advance Wars is a straight up clone of Military Madness. And so is EndWar DS.

    DiscGuru101-

Advance Wars is the offspring of Famicom Wars, of the Nintendo Wars series, released in 1988. Military Madness was a year later.

Practice what you preach and "look up the facts."

The PSP version could look so much better...

Anyway, this is not what I expected the new Tom Clancy game to be. I thought it would be realistic, not cartoony.

Not all developers are catering for the game-playing equivalent of magpies y'know. Some of you people honestly don't deserve good games if all you care about is gawking at the shiny pictures.

The graphics, the genre and the handhelds all compliment each other very well (e.g. Advance Wars, Fire Emblem). I think this edition of Endwar looks pretty sweet. There should be more games like this, and less of the lowest-common-denominator crap.

But then very few of you would buy video games, because they wouldn't shine enough.

For the psp that looks really bad. It looks okayish for a DS game...

I dont think i will get the psp version. It will be okay but the graohics will annoy me plus it will probably play better on the DS touch screen.

    Im waiting for resistance retribution.
