Take-Two calls Pujols up to The BIGS

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman named cover athlete for publisher's upcoming arcade-style baseball game.

In choosing a cover athlete for the upcoming arcade-style baseball game The BIGS, publisher Take-Two Interactive wanted a player that reflected the game's focus on over-the-top action and a pick-up-and-play learning curve.

As a result, the company today announced St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols as its choice to grace the game's cover. As the youngest player to reach the 250 home run milestone, Pujols' power hitting qualifies as "over the top," and the 2001 National League Rookie of the Year is equally familiar with the concept of "pick up and play."

The BIGS is scheduled for release this summer on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable.

I wonder if this will be the baseball equivalent of Blitz: The League. That could be fun.

And it seems that GameCube and XBOX owners have seen the last great titles they'll ever get. Now that they're no longer being sold, the game makers have pulled stopped supporting them. Sad, in my opinion, but that's the way it is.

I'm a huge Yankee fan, but they really should have put Kenji Johjima (Mariners' catcher) on the cover. Best name EVER.

But in all seriousness, I wish it had been A-Rod on the cover, but Pujols is still an excellent choice.

...edited for spelling, its 4AM and I'm still awake :-!

Uhh, where's the Xbox version? Or a DS version to make up for the horrendous MLB 2k7? Am I the only dude left on the earth who has an original Xbox?

I can't see this hitting Europe, most UK bods still think of it as "Rounders on Steriods", which is in no way a reference to Balco and Barry Bonds, or Jason Giambi, or Mark McGwire, or Rafael Palmeiro....

At best all we can hope for is that they don't region lock it so it can be bought on import so that those UK players who follow the game can play it.

    Go Red Sox.

That's three covers so far in his career.....total aces! :-) (FYI, the other two covers were EA Sports MVP Baseball 2004 and Backyard Baseball 2006.) It's nice being a Cardinals fan.

I too am hoping this game rocks on the Wii. We're starved for a decent baseball game. I just hope it's not too unrealistic. I've been clinging to EA Sports MVP Baseball 2005 for the PC, since it's the newest baseball game on the platforms I own (PC and Wii).

After the career he's had, it's about time he got another spot on a bseball cover!

I hope the Wii version of this game rocks. I mean, Wii Sports Baseball was pretty darn fun - a lot more depth would make for an awfully good game. Somebody needs to do it soon. Or else Mario Tennis Wii needs to be good.
