Man Utd, Liverpool join PES 2009

Konami signs four-year deal with pan-European club competition UEFA Champions League; two Premierships teams joining lineup for 2009.

Details for the latest instalment in Konami's annual football franchise, Pro Evolution Soccer 2009, were unveiled today. The biggest announcement was that the publisher has signed a four-year exclusive contract with the UEFA Champions League. The deal allows Konami to "use all elements and attributes of the competition to create an exclusive UEFA Champions League mode within the PES game," according to a statement.

Commenting on the agreement, Konami Europe president Kunio Neo said, "This deal showcases our commitment to taking PES 2009 forward in terms of licences and realism. The UEFA Champions League is the jewel in the club competition crown, and is just one of many innovations we have lined up for the new game."

Two of the top English teams in the Champions League will also be making an appearance this year. Manchester United will be playable, much to the delight of Cristiano Ronaldo fans, whereas those that fancy themselves as Steven Gerrard can play as Liverpool FC. Both Old Trafford and Anfield will be playable. MCV also reports that Wembley will also be available as a venue, thanks to a deal which sees Pro Evo becoming the official game of the England football team.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 will be released in the UK on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on October 17, with the PlayStation 2 version to follow on October 30, and PlayStation Portable on November 6. A Wii version is planned for spring 2009.

i agree with saxxus. I also always played FIFA until i tried PES 2008, because FIFA 08 disappointed me. WOW, the difference is just enormous! PES is so fluent and realistic. FIFA is a bunch of robots running into each other... I've tried FIFA 09 now that it has been released and I like the new control system, but I'll still go back to PES 09 when it comes out, I'm sure

"I have seen Pes and Fifa and Honestly both games are good like em both but until Pes gets better licenses yes Champions league is awesome but where is the license for futbol Español REAL MADRID Italian JUVENTUS and much more i keep saying that for that FIFA is still the one i'm playing."

Yeah, hey genius, the spanish and italian leagues have been licensed in PES for years now. Real, Juve, the whole leagues. France too, if you care.

PES isn't licensed to the teeth but its not the backwater license hick you think for some reason.

I wish they could license more than 2 brit teams a version personally...

I am hanging for PES 2009. I was once a FIFA die hard until I was convinced to try PES 2008, and I have never looked back since. It wasn't until I played PES that I realised what I was missing.
What I don't understand is how people can actually say EA Fifa is better? When comparing FIFA and PES, 'Opinion' doesn't come into it. It's pretty obvious when you play the two of them that FIFA is very robotic, very arcade like, it just doesn't have the fluidity..I downloaded the FIFA09 demo and it just seems like EA developers just pulled out their engine and animation from years ago and put the number 2009 at the end of the title. And why the hell is the soccer ball so bloody big????

Now that I've seen the trailer for PES 2009, wow... :-)

Considering Konami are up against gaming and licencing giants, EA, I'd have to say that scoring the rights to the Champions league and couple of premier league sides is a huge feat. One of the biggest losses for EA since they lost the F1 licence to Codemasters. Looking forward to it!
