Sony lays out '08, early '09 lineup

Publisher confirms stateside delays for Killzone 2 and LittleBigPlanet, dates Resistance 2, PS3 Buzz! for fall.

At Sony's EU PlayStation Day in London early last week, the publisher dropped a handful of heartening details, as well as a few downers for PlayStation 3 owners. Namely, the publisher said that two of its most anticipated exclusive titles, Guerrilla's Killzone 2 and Media Molecule's LittleBigPlanet, had been bumped from their projected ship dates--in Europe, at least--to February 2009 and October 2008, respectively.

With Sony throwing a stateside Gamers' Day event in Southern California today, the publisher confirmed that Guerrilla's long-awaited first-person shooter and Media Molecule's sandbox playground have indeed been furloughed to launch in proximity to their European counterparts.

In addition to confirming the delays, Sony also laid out its lineup for the rest of 2008 and into early 2009. Of primary note, the publisher said Insomniac Games' Resistance 2 will arrive on the PS3 this fall. The publisher stressed the game's large-scale 60-player online multiplayer component, as well as the MyResistance.net community portal.

PS3 gamers looking for a little less mayhem will also be interested to know Buzz! Quiz TV, featuring more than 5,000 questions in five categories, will also land on Sony's flagship console this fall. A slimmed-down PSP version of the game, Buzz! Master Quiz, will be available in the same time frame, and include 3,000 questions spanning a variety of topics.

In addition to its retail offerings, Sony also gave PS3 owners a heads-up on what will arrive on the PlayStation Network this summer. Before summer's end, the publisher expects Sony Liverpool's Wipeout HD, 8bit Games' Elefunk, Q-Games' PixelJunk Eden, and Sony Japan's episodic series Siren: Blood Curse.

A full lineup of upcoming titles published by Sony is listed below.
Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2--PSP--June 3

All the consoles have good games. Xbox 360 has Halo 3, Gears of peace. The Wii has Mario Kart Galaxy and some other good games while the PS3 has the the Grand turismo and the MotorStorm games which are alot of fun.

Currently playing Siren: Blood Curse now for PS3. Its amazingly eery, strangely inviting and fun to play. Different to most horror game genres from Japan. LittleBigPlanet, MotorStorm Pacific Rift, that's brilliant for the time scale - where's Playstation Home?!

"and less than stellar reviews on IGN and Gamespot, publications who have long lost my respect?" You post on a site you don't respect???

I guess Haze has to bee moved off the list of great AAA titles. In all honesty gamers really need to come togethere and stop console wars. The war needs to be against developers who keeep putting out half-donkey butt games. Haze probably could have been a great game if developers would have took the time to tweak some things here and there. I've seen too many flaws, glitches and performance issues in too many games. You wouldn't accept this out of most of your products. I can't name one other product like games where the consumer accepts so many flaws in the product. We shouldn't reward these people with our hard earned money if they are going to continue to put out flawed product. I don't care how good it looks. You wouldn't buy a new Mustang convertible that ran fast but leaked fuel. Why would you buy a game that looks good but freezes and has crazy AI?

I haven't picked up Haze yet but I've got a copy waiting for me. I'm curious to play it myself and see what's going on. How can it get an almost perfect score from Famitsu, a game publication I still respect and less than stellar reviews on IGN and Gamespot, publications who have long lost my respect? Once I'm done I'll post my own review, so if anyone wants to get the perspective from a Wii/360/PS3 owner who loves his games and hasn't been paid by anyone for his opinion, keep an eye out over the next few days.

"Guess i'll wait another year to get a PS3 and some good games." me too haze got a 6.0 so that leaves 2 fps for the ps3 (that are exclusive) so as a big console fps fan I'll wait for early 09-mid 09 to get one

ParisSun said "I'm sure you don't even believe that there will be 200 exclusives for the PS3 between now and next year. "
Well, some of these are out already, but still there are about 157 on this list, and I know I've seen longer. Still, this is just the exclusives and I still have no time to play the games I have.

Why do people always list all these "great" games coming out for their system when they know they can't afford to buy all of them? Why list 6 to 8 games? Are you telling me you that some of you are spending up to $400 a year on games! Instead of doing that, cut your gaming budget in half and save/invest the rest. See how much you will have earned by the time you garduate from college. You will thank me for this later.

As is I already have a stack of great PS3 games I have no time to play (haven't finished orange box, burnout or even started GTA4), and I already have MGS4 pre-ordered. I wasn't expecting Killzone till late this year, early next so this didn't effect me at all. Same with LPB, I thought it was still just a "Fall 08" release, and it still is. There's something close to 200 exclusives coming to the PS3 between this year and early next. Who has time for all these?
