World Baseball Classic gets digitized in MLB 2K6

Global competition will be featured in 2K Sports' forthcoming baseball game; 16 countries will be represented in tourney.

Apparently 162 games in a season wasn't enough for Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig's taste. Scores of MLB players will participate in the new World Baseball Classic, which begins in March. The WBC is a World Cup-style tournament designed to promote the game abroad and features 16 national teams, from doormats like Australia and South Africa to powerhouses such as the US and the Dominican Republic.

Now gamers will be able to decide where Vladimir Guerrero, Albert Pujols, Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz, and Miguel Tejada bat in the DR's lineup, as 2K Sports has announced that the WBC will be included in Major League Baseball 2K6.

"Highlighting the World Baseball Classic in the upcoming edition of Major League Baseball 2K6 makes perfect business sense for all the parties involved," said Tim Brosnan, executive vice president of Major League Baseball. "The World Baseball Classic is going to be a winner and will highlight the appeal and passion for baseball throughout the world."

MLB 2K6 is currently scheduled for a spring release on the PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, Xbox 360, and PSP.

    Meh. Good options, but unless there's a PC port in the future I won't be picking this up. I miss MVP already.

    it wont matter that WBC teams are in the game if the players still move like robots. like in 2k5

    Who cares. Baseball is the most boring sport sport known to man. I really don't like watching juiced-up idiots hit a ball and run around.

    See once again 2K brings "IT" to the table. Unlike EA-Sports games, 2K with Kush/Virual concepts listen to the fans and bring amazing new features in to their games. Just to name a few... Crib (NFL 2K5), VIP (NFL 2K5/NBA 2K6), Shootstick (NBA 2K6), and now WBC (MLB 2K6).

    Who really wants to continue to play EA's same engine over and over again with the same game cloned from year to year.

    My question is: How will all of the players in the World Baseball Classic be represented? Sure, I can see Big Papi and Chipper Jones in new uniforms, but what about all of the non-MLers? Are my Cuban and South African WBC teams going to have the actual names of players, or am I going to get the "SS #14" akin to a college sports game?

    Please, oh please let it run betten than World Series 2K1 for the Dreamast. Talk about ruining online when the lag can't even keep up with the pitch. How many times I strike out simply because the ball wasn't pitched yet on my end?

    Before we pucker our lips up and kiss some 2k butt, let us hope that they focus more on fixing the game's horrible mechanics. While some of you mourn the loss of their football title, many others mourn the loss of MVP Baseball, the best baseball game on the market the last two years.

    it's nice to know that exclusive liscenses can be used to good use... if only 2k had another specific sport.. I wonder if I would've bought a football game

    sweet this game is gonna be really good, just dont know if its still worth buy the 360 for, or maybe just wait for more better games.
