BioShock, Wii Sports top BAFTAs

Take-Two's undersea actioner crowned game of the year, but Nintendo's plucky minigame compilation wins most trophies at UK's most prestigious gaming awards.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts has announced the winners of its 2007 Video Games Awards at a ceremony in London attended by hundreds of members of the gaming industry. At the Battersea Evolution venue, host Vic Reeves and a throng of minor celebrities including Gareth Gates and Margaret Hodge announced the winners at the illustrious black tie event.

Nintendo's minigame-compilation-turned-cultural-phenomenon Wii Sports cleaned up at the event with a total of six awards, although it didn't manage to score Best Game. That honour went to BioShock, the atmospheric Xbox 360 and PC sci-fi shooter from Take-Two Interactive.

Games released in the UK between October 6, 2006, and December 31, 2007, were eligible for nomination to the awards, but had to be playable by the jury members by September 6 in order to be judged.

Bioshock was ok but in my opinion the only reason it could get an award like that is because it had no competition.

and to the people who said about the story, go play system shock 2 and you'll see how stupidly similar it is, the story isn't impressive at all. and honestly anyone who thinks the graphics in bioshock are impressive needs a slap those character models were about as good as UT2K4's

Some of the games haven't been released and some has just been released . the awards indirectly advertised for the games , Its like saying we've seen these games they deserve an award and therefore deserve your attention !

WHERE IS BIOSHOCK IN BEST USE OF AUDIO
WHERE IS BIOSHOCK IN STORY AND CHARACTER.
WHY IS VIVA PINATA'S ORIGINAL SCORE NOMINATED.
WHY THE -insert word here- IS THE SIMPSONS GAME IN STORY AND CHARACTER, ITS A BLOODY TV SHOW. WHY DOES THE CASUAL CATEGORY MEAN THAT GAMES PLAYED WITH A CONTROLLER CAN'T BE NOMINATED. WHERES HALO 3.

To Longfire3000: as for Halo 3, the introduction states that the games had to be playable by Sept. 6, 2007...Bungie would never follow that release

How did both Gears and Halo 3 not get any. I'm British and the BAFTA's are normally sensible, but this is out of the window!

Huh? I'm confused...what is a TV board doing rating video games? Or are video games now considered television art? That would be funny since so many "professionals" say that video games are not art. Maybe i'm not sophisticated enough...for the record, strategy and simulation need to be 2 separate category's

Crackdown was great, but should'nt have gotten that much attention. Wii Sports is just a minigame compilation that is now overrated. How can they say Crackdown has the best use of audio? The only thing good about its sound is the opening tune. It should be Guitar Hero 2 , but hey, that goes to show how some of us work...

??? Crackdown... best use of audio??? WTF!!!!
And why isn't halo 3 best multiplayer?
And why is WII sports best strategy and simulation? and why?
and why? and why? and why and why and why and why....
