Official UK game-sales chart

The Godfather holds off Oblivion to take the UK's pole position.

This week's ELSPA official UK game sales chart as compiled by Chart Track sees The Godfather climbing to number one. Electronic Arts' movie-inspired action game replaces last week's champ, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, which falls to number two. The highest new entry this week was Nintendo's Animal Crossing on the Nintendo DS, followed by Far Cry Instincts Predator and Championship Manager 2006, which entered the top 10 at numbers eight and nine, respectively.

Best-selling games in the UK for the week ending April 1, 2006:

Rank This Week / Rank Last Week / Title / Publisher / Platforms

1 / 2 / The Godfather / EA / PS2, Xbox, PC
2 / 1 / The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion / Take 2 / PC, Xbox 360
3 / 4 / FIFA Street 2 / EA / PS2, PSP, Xbox, GC, DS
4 / 3 / Buzz! The Big Quiz / Sony / PS2

Shao_Kahn, have you played Oblivion? I'm willing to bet that you haven't. Alot of us that have been trying to make it through the RPG drought are really pleased with the game, obviously. As far as flavor of the month, Morrowind is still being modded. What does that say about Oblivion, which is a superior game? I think it will be around for a long time to come. And kudos to Bethesda for making it without a multiplayer component.

Yall need to just get over the fact that obvlivion isn't the be all and end all. Hell, in a couple of months you won't even remember it, just like every other "flavor of the month" game.

For once that's not bad. Though Fifa Street 2 had been at the top for far too long. For shame people, for shame. Animal Crossing 6th?! That was unexpected, but not unwelcomed.

Just to clarify, Oblivion debuted at No.1 in the UK charts last week (the second biggest selling Xbox 360 game ever!), in its second week it fell to No.2.

I think another interesting piece of information is that of the top 10, 40% of the chart is made up of Xbox 360 games, which have appeared to performed consistently well in the UK, since the platforms launch.

I think that Oblivion getting into the number 2 slot in the uk game charts is an acheivment since RPG's are seen as realy nerdy here in the UK. The kind of thing where you would change the channel if you friend walked in and make out you were playing halo or gta. I happen to have Oblivion and think its great but most of my friends havent even heard of it! And that EA trash always weeds its way into the the typical chav PS2 non-hardcore gamer! no offence

Fifa Steet 2 and number 3? Heh, I see that the UKs taste in games never changes. Disappointing, really.

Godfather had an extra week or so to saturate the market as well; so you 'accept' it (not' except' as you put it).
