Rooney shrugs off bug for FIFA 09 ad shoot

With just over a week to go until the new Premiership season kicks off in England, thoughts are starting to turn toward the next iteration of the major football franchises. The engine improvements in UEFA Euro 2008 and Konami's missteps with Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 mean that there is even more interest than ever in FIFA 09, EA Sports' next offering.

However, EA is clearly not content to just let the hype build up on its own. Wayne Rooney was shooting an advert for the upcoming game in Manchester yesterday, despite it having been widely reported that he was going to miss the first game of the Red Devils' campaign through an illness allegedly picked up during the club's preseason trip to Nigeria. The source of that illness is a matter for some debate, however, with The Sun reporting that the man responsible for organising the Nigerian tour described the suggestion that the virus had been picked up in the country as "a lie from the pit of hell."

The Daily Mail reported that fans turned out in droves for the chance to be extras in the advertisment, which was shot outside a pub in the city's Ancoats region. Photos of the event published in the Mail showed an unshaven Rooney sporting an image of his in-game persona on his T-shirt, and holding a PlayStation 3 controller.

    totally agree with klinsi. sorry to say that the gameplay for FIFA 09 is still the same like last year version.i`ve downloaded the demo.the graphic is 'ok' than the previous version but the gameplay is suck.

    there is a new control.mouse and keyboard control.but i dont bother about that at all.what i need is better gameplay.but sadly it is still the same. yeah they get an official FIFA license but it didnt prove to me that they are making a good game at all.

    i hate the what they call the advantage thingy.the referee is totally suck.the cut scene is like the previous version.nothing much to expect on FIFA 09. just a better graphic then FIFA 08 and the rest is i guess is still the same.for the demo version it didnt have the commentator with it.i hope they change the commentator speech.FIFA 08 speech is BORING because it is like FIFA 07.

    Yah.why the FAMOUS game maker didnt see they making the same game without any major improvement (gameplay). as far as i can see PES 2009 has more to offer. PES 2009 will get a better ranking compare to FIFA 09.

    Yeah... I dont care at all about who's being in the cover but...

    FOR GOD SAKE..

    PLZ IMPROVE THE AI FOR TEAMMATES GAMEPLAY + USER GK AI + GAMEPLAY + BE A PRO modes + EDITOR MODE + REFEREE !!!

    No matter what NEW GAMEPLAY is introduced... it will be totally USELESS if one of user AI teammate can do just to stand idle doing nothing during counter attack or defend

    And no matter what gameplay or skill gimnick is introduced... IT WILL TOTALLY USELESS since in FIFA series... all USER GK play like a Suriname GK !

    And I know that SKILL of FIFA Player in game is ALWAYS TOTALLY USELESS since the AI player will be always same ! (u face any team with SAME GAMEPLAY)
    Improve & change that gameplay !

    FIFA 08 editor mode is one of the WORST EDITOR mode in a football game !
    No SHORT CUT to increase the skill to max & min
    Useless randomize all feat (what the use of randomize all ???
    Bad editor interface that forced player back to MAIN MENU again & again !

    Try to imitate & improve the EDITOR MODE for PES or WE series !
    Its much much much 10 times BETTER than EDITOR mode in FIFA 08 !

    Plus if EA BOAST this game as AN OFFICIAL FIFA LICENSE PRODUCT exclusively... then PLZ READ FIFA MANUAL + FIFA FOOTBALL GUIDE first before creating the game !
    Plz introduced the 4TH RED CARD + FAIR & JUST REFEREE that will stop the game with PUNCTUAL INJURY TIME not because the ball had been changed in PLAYER possession, give warning fairly not because the ball possession, give offside fairly

    And plz REMOVE THE STATS counter for OFFLINE too
    Its wasted & useless feat !

    Plz make its more much easily to get EXP in BE A PRO mode since all skill in FIFA series is just almost totally a MAKE UP or useless GIMNICK so why EA make it so hard to get a lot of exp ???

    All we just want just a very simple ASKING that Konami proved can DO !
    So why EA as the LARGEST BIGGEST RICHEST FAMOUS game maker in the world can't DO it the same too when u charge the game MORE than $ 20 bucks eh ???
    Thanks if EA want to improve the GAMEPLAY + EDITOR mode greatly

    im glad that ronalidnho is not longer in fifa games, sick of watching every year in fifa´s covers THANK GOD!!!and about rooney, well if he keeps playing in ManU, he will be in the cover of every fifa game... at least in UK, and about america? hopefully dont get more mexican (uknown by all of us but mexican fans) and MLS players in the cover of the games,think again,in the entire continent they watch spanish soccer, so why dont EA get La Liga stars like robinho (if hes not going to chelsea), villa, van nistelrooy, messi, raul, robben, henry (well not that famous but still) etc etc etc... bottom of line ITS GONNA BE THE BEST FUTBOL (soccer) GAME EVER

    Seeing as how they made a big deal in Ireland about the inclusion of the Eircom League in Fifa 2008, does anyone kno if it is still in this year and whether any of the players will be face-mapped?

    Why can't anyone spell 'Manchester' anymore? God damn!

    I don't know why Rooney is the face of FIFA still. He's not 'that' good now. Understandable they put his face on for the UK version, but it'd probably be better with someone else. I support Man Utd also so it's not a jab.

    we dont need rooney for your imformation he has only scored 2 competitive goals for england since euro 2004.

    why him on the front of a game it should be a player that is performing well. id prefer crouch. but really ronaldinho is so overrated he cant perform when it comes to playing on the big stage at european champions league and at the world cup.

    the double should be ronaldo and kaka

    Ronaldo's actually staying....
    You'd hate to be an Arsenal fan, while you're club has to sell players to afford new ones...
    No more Hleb or Flamini...and you lot didnt even get a fee for Flamini lol.
    You should consider your own teams situation before you comment on United's....
