Aussie A-League featured in FIFA 08

Next EA Sports football title to include Australia's A-League; Melbourne Victory's Archie Thompson named local "ambassador."

EA Sports' FIFA series has long featured a wealth of real-world football leagues, but Australia's comparatively small local competition has missed out on the digital treatment thus far. But the country's burgeoning A-League must have caught EA's interest in recent times, given the confirmation today that the A-League will be one of the official playable competitions in the upcoming FIFA 08.

In addition, Melbourne Victory striker Archie Thompson has been named the game's official "ambassador" in Australia and New Zealand. While Thompson won't actually appear on the cover of FIFA 08, he will be a spokesperson for the game and will be used in other EA promotions.

"I know that plenty of the boys at Melbourne Victory enjoy playing video games, so it’s fantastic that we can now play as our favourite Hyundai A-League club either in a league or against other international clubs," Thompson said in a press release.

FIFA 08 will be released on the PC, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, and Wii in September this year.

But what about Romanian, Russian and Ukranian Leagues ?
Shelborne nearly got in the champions league, but Dynamo Kiev, CSKA Moskow, Spartak , STEAUA BUCHAREST, Sakhtar Donetk and other clubs played in the Champions League. And will play this season too.

Alwayz loved fifa. Pro Evo n Fifa were Neck+Neck last year, i think EA may of cracked it! IMO its the licencing that makes it special, love playing as my favourite team (aston villa) in season mode and chalenging for europe, bringing in new faces and seeing what they look like in a Villa shirt...beautiful

    Great news!!
Now, why not add a couple more leagues and international teams?!
If it's not asking too much of course.

Anyway, I gotta have this one!

    Cheers

Vyce3 "Australian league + Irish league = must buy"

I agree. The Irish league should definitley be in it. Shelbourne nearly got into the champions league. Go Bray Wanderers!!! (Hey we drew with Ipswich when they were in the Premiership)

Now I'd love to get the league from Argentina in there

good to hear this. adding smaller leagues should have never been a problem to begin with. it doesnt take much money to license aussie, or bosnian or russian league, and it makes even bigger fan base!

I was expecting a couple of 'big' A-League clubs to feature as 'Rest of the World' teams within a year or so, but a playable league in 08 is the stuff of dreams

rpm8000, Archie's 5-goal show in last season's grand final against a certain United may have something to do with it but from a neutral perspective it makes sense anyway, Archie is arguably the single most recognisable player in the league. International returnees like Craig Moore haven't had time to make an impact yet.

Haklin, Your spot-on brotha. Adelaide United should be on the cover and what do I hear that Thompson is going to promote the game is Aus not happy Jane!! I don't understand what the whole fuss is about Thompson anyway.
