More brain games UK bound

Three new brain-training titles are announced for UK gamers, including a PSP version.

Encouraged no doubt by Dr. Kawashima's decent stint in the top-selling charts, three new intelligence-testing games have been announced for the UK and Europe. Two of them, published by 505 Games, target the already well-served Nintendo DS platform, while a new title overseen by Dr. Kawashima himself will hit the PlayStation Portable.

The DS titles, The Professor's Brain Trainer: Logic and the Professor's Brain Trainer: Memory are both scheduled for a winter release in the UK and will feature a series of activities including simple math problems, drawing pictures, reading out loud, and playing Sudoku puzzles. The games are designed to be used for a short time each day as a form of "mental exercise"--the sort of games that have proven to be popular among a far wider demographic than traditional games.

The two latest titles were developed under the guidance of Dr. Makoto Shichida, a brain and neurology professor at the University of Newport, Japan. The Professor's Brain Trainer: Logic will focus on logic problems, mathematical ability, and concentration, whereas The Professor's Brain Trainer: Memory claims to improve players' memories with a series of visual association and concentration minigames. Each game will have five different difficulty levels and themes.

Ubisoft is also helping the mind game craze on its way with a new title for the PSP, called Mind Quiz, created under the supervision of Dr. Kawashima. It will be released in Europe next month and will also feature online gameplay elements with a challenge mode.

Europe always gets all the good games. And yes, I know obviously a brain game on the DS has no comparison to one on the PSP, since we all know brain training games on the DS have the mic and touchscreen for a far better experience and probably more accurate results, unlike the PSP where you have to push the right button after looking at the rest of the answers. But guys, we do have to give PSP some props for trying! I have MindQuiz and it's pretty good, not as great as Brain Age, but good for the PSP game that is, stop comparing it to the DS versions it's a totally different ballpark.

The 505 DS games will be coming to the states as well. The PSP brain training title is actually quite old it was one of the best selling psp games in Japan.

Hopefully this will encourage PSP gamers to use their brains once in a while. Miracles do happen.

Yeah, brain game on psp is only good if you are good at pressing triangle and x and circle and square in a bunch of combinations. Like "what shape did you see?" Plus, it takes away the whole quick fire thing of the brain training games, making it a more slow game (which will get even MORE boring and tedious).

The ds at least has a mic to put a spin on things, and also built in memory in the cards so the saving is done instantly, and you cant cheat by using another save. Making it more of a better purchase, makes you want to BEAT the game you know?

Ds also has touch screen, which is perfect for testing your brain with speed and accuracy. Well, glad more brain games are coming out on the ds! they rock!

More is good. A brain game on the PSP would be pretty limited.

I really wish crap like this would stay on the ds, the psp is for hardcore games. If I wanted to improve my mind I wouldn't be playing any game system period.

I cant imagine anyone sitting there with a playstation controller in hand, trying to improve their memory, when they could be killing bad guys or driving at insane speeds....i mean ANY game would be better than this. Its not even a game! ok...i think this guy is saying that playstation users are stupid, mindless drones. That's what it sound like to me. (lol @ driving at insane speeds)

how is DS's usability going to translate to psp? use the touch screen and hold the psp sideways? riiiight. non-touch Brain Training will be slow and non-intuitive.

I think the novelty of Brain Training has worn off. The first game was intriguing, but releasing three more very soon after just seems like a needless cash in.

Brain Age was ok, but didn't have a great variety of exercises. It got old fast.
