flOw ebbs toward PSP

ESRB listing suggests stateside release of aquatic ambiance game on Sony's handheld.

One of the more sublime offerings for the PlayStation 3 is flOw, a downloadable game drawing its origins from a USC student's graduate project. Not fitting into conventional genres, flOw's primary appeal lies in its mildly abstract visuals and soothing ambient sounds that sharply contrast with the survival-of-the-fittest gameplay, in which players work toward ascending a microscopic food chain.

With flOw's noncommittal gameplay, it comes as no great surprise that the game may now make its way onto the PlayStation Portable. Sony's UK PlayStation site lists flOw as coming to the PSP this January, and an E for Everybody rating for the game has appeared in the Entertainment Software Rating Board's online database, all but confirming a stateside release. However, despite the rating, Sony was unwilling to officially confirm the game's release to GameSpot.

For flOw's European debut on the PSP, the game is listed as a downloadable offering available through the PC-to-PSP store. The PSP version of the game will feature ad hoc multiplayer for four.

The PSP should definately have some sort of Sixaxis technology inside it someday... perhaps it will towards the end of the year... or some sort of USB attachment for the top with sixaxis in it.

My reasons for wanting this is that tilting around in this game make it much more fun to play, it gets well boring otherwise.
Its great on a big screen and for like £3.49 on the ps store, it draws you in. But this will probably fetch anything between £14.99 and £19.99 on the UMD's, and using the slider isn't much fun

Having sixaxis on the psp would be awesome because I would imagine that a locoroco game would be amazing with the tilt sensor in the psp.

I LIKE watching new creatures get eaten and possibly expelled as waste! But seriously, I got this for the PS3 (and yes, the expansion as well) because you can tilt the controller to move your little creature around, which makes it the perfect game to play if you are either really tired and don't want to button mash, or drunk out of your gourd. I don't think I will get this for my PSP just because controlling that damn ameboid with the tiny little PSP analog stick would probably not be as fun. However, flow for the PS3 is still a good game if you want to kill some time in an extremely laid-back way.

Maybe there'll be new unlockable content, new things to eat and get to watch it expell it's waste maybe... or the ever popular minigames ooooo I'll pass and be happy with my Marvel Card Game.

Meh, I got fl0w for the PS3 a while ago and it wasn't really anything special. I mean, eating things and watching your creature slowly transform is cool...for like the first round. After that, it's not really that interesting anymore since you see the other creatures' full form before you even become them, defeating the purpose of surprise.

An exclusive game GOING to the PSP? Shouldn't it normally be doing it the other way around?

I had heard about this game before and thought it was a cool concept, but then I forgot all about it until I saw this article. I will definitely have to check it out.

This could be fun, but I'd still rather just have it on a UMD so I don't have to use up space on those memory cards. Why couldn't they have used SD cards....which are WAY cheaper anyway?

They will be selling a copy to me, that's for sure. I've wanted to play this game for a while. Now, if only I could afford a PSP...

Ugh, ad-hoc only... why do they insist on still releasing games ad-hoc only? And the ones they do take the time to release infrastructure are stupid download content. Yes, I know it's possible to play ad-hoc games using utilities and effort - but we shouldn't have to go to all that trouble to do so. Crappity.
