Sega rallies on PSP
Bugbear Entertainment developing handheld version of newest installment in Sega's Sega Rally Revo racing series.
Despite being an arcade classic, Tetsuya Mizuguchi's 1995 classic Sega Rally Championship hasn't received much attention outside of the arcade. At the 2006 Electronic Entertainment Expo, Sega Rally Revo was announced, which heralded the arrival of North American console versions on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Today comes word that Sega is expanding that list to include the PlayStation Portable. Sega Rally Revo is slated to arrive this fall on all platforms.
While Sega's in-house Racing Studio is handling the next-gen Sega Rally Revo versions, Bugbear Entertainment has been tasked with developing for the handheld. No stranger to the racing scene, Bugbear's recent credits include vehicular-mayhem racers FlatOut and FlatOut 2.
Details are still sparse on how different the PSP version will be from its console counterparts. However, Guy Wilday, studio director for SEGA Racing Studio, did confirm the handheld edition of the off-road racer will have online play. "With the addition of multiplayer wireless and online multiplayer, there's scope for players to show off their skills against their friends," he said in a statement.
Sega Rally Revo has not yet been priced or rated.
