Micro Machines V4 goes gold

Multiplayer racing action based on the mini-toy franchise to be available at the end of June.

UK publisher Codemasters' Micro Machines V4 is ready to race. The publisher today confirmed that development on the game has been completed and a gold master produced, from which retail copies will now be pressed. It is due for UK release on June 30 for the PC, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable, with a Nintendo DS version in the pipeline. The game is set for a June 27 release in the US.

Micro Machines V4 pits up to four players against one other, racing around circuits taken from domestic environments while collecting weapon power-ups. Codemasters tapped Supersonic Software, the studio behind Micro Machines 2, Antz: Extreme Racing, and Pong: The Next Level, to develop the game. The whole falling off the track thing, where it pauses to let the other car back on is enough for me to say "thanks but no thanks." Watch the vids and you'll see what I mean. That'll get old real quick.

Now if you could race in those old playsets they use to sell with the Micro Machines, that would be cool. Remember the toolbox that turned into a city or the gas can that turned into a mountain pass. Let me race on those.

If they pull this one off, it could be good. But so many great game concepts are never fully realized. A certain Driv3r game cpmes to mind...... I also noticed that nobody ever realized my idea about a MMORPG where you play a fly searching the suburbs for the perfect trash heap.....

Also, Also, there have been many rip offs of the micormachines line. Unfortunately, since the origional micro machines on the Genesis, they have all sucked. If Supersonic can pull it together, it might be worth something.
