PSPs, PS2s getting Fast, Furious

Namco Bandai developing game based on third The Fast and the Furious movie; racer speeds into stores this summer.

The street-racing genre still has some gas left in the tank. Namco Bandai Games is putting a new competitor on the tracks with The Fast and the Furious for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable. The game will be "set in a world related to, yet separate from," the upcoming Universal Pictures' feature film The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, and it is scheduled to be released this summer.

The Fast and the Furious focuses on the underground scene of drift racing in Japan. Gamers will take to city streets in hundreds of licensed cars that can be tricked out with more than 500 body kits from authentic manufacturers. The game also features boss races, as well as an "advanced rubber band" artificial-intelligence system. Multiplayer modes include two-player split-screen and up to four players online.

The game is being developed by British developer Eutechnyx. The company has spent plenty of time behind the wheel, with racing games Street Racing Syndicate, Ford vs. Chevy, and Big Mutha Truckers.

With the first two Fast and the Furious films grossing over $270 million domestically, one would think a game based on the license would have been made years ago. In fact, VU Games had a Fast and the Furious game in the works but cancelled it during development.

Vin Diesel, star of the series' first film, is working on a racing project based on a movie, but it isn't The Fast and the Furious-related. Diesel is working with Midway Games on The Wheelman, scheduled for release sometime in 2007.

How come everyone one compares F&F to NFS:Underground what about Midnight Club. Wasn't that out way before NFS:Underground?

Funnily enough I saw the trailer for the next "Fast" movie the other day, and, well...let me just ask this: is it a bad sign to actually feel like you're going to MISS Paul Walker's "performance?"

I hope this game actually makes it out. They were supposed to do a game on the first F&F but it never was made

The people who like this game are the ones who have cars with high spoilers, craploads of stickers, cars lowered 1mm off the ground with spinners, mini tv screens on headrests and unfunctional vents/hood scoops everywhere. F*** Fast in the Furious for screwing up the import scene...and now games.

You guys are right : movie was terrible and there are quite few driving games on psp already. Now is Gran Turismo going to change all that ? It'd better be VERY good.

This game will do so bad. The movie was released long ago and games based on movie never so well. So many games that are more worthy of your buck.

    OMG....
They REALLY SHOULD WORK ON A INITIAL D GAME....
i mean if they can release this game...Sega (made the arcade game)
should consider making a INITAL D with updated controls AND ONLINE MULTIPLAYER...that would be awesome.

I don't care for the movie so I don't care for this game. Never really been a fan of the NFS series either.

Street Racing Syndicate, Ford vs. Chevy, and Big Mutha Truckers.
With AAA racing titles like those, what can go wrong?

Uhm I love racing games but come on these street racing games suck as well as the fast and the furious sucks even more. I understand peoples complaints about racing games on the psp, but that is what is actually selling the most right now on the psp. Just wait and your rpgs will come and I am also mad at the lack of fps and socom styled games also. Where is the nascar title for the psp EA?
