UK game charts: October 1-7

Fifa 07 retains the top spot for second week; Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy climbs back up; Tiger Woods and Kingdom Hearts II hold steady.

As the football season starts to hot up and England come under pressure in their Euro 2008 qualification campaign, it's no real surprise that FIFA 07 has managed to kick around at the number one slot in the UK All-Formats chart for a second week in a row. EA Sports' flagship soccer game's sales totalled more than the next seven games combined.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07, Kingdom Hearts II, and Company of Heroes all dug their heels in and stayed firmly put at last week's positions (third, fifth, and seventh, respectively), whereas Dr Kawashima's Brain Training moved upwards again to eighth in its marathon 18th week in the charts.

Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy proved that the force is still strong by moving back up a couple of spots to number two after dropping to number four last week.

Codemasters' LMA Manager 2007 suffered a 42 percent dip in sales and is down to ninth place, and will likely be red-carded out of the top 10 in next week's chart.

Disappointingly, there were no new entries in this week's top 10 and in fact only one new entry in the entire top 40--Konami's Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence slithered in to the tail end of the chart at 34.

The highest climber of the week was Nintendo's 42-All-Time Classics for the DS, which rose to 17 from 36. However, Nintendo's DS Browser, which was released on Friday, hasn't made it to the chart yet.

Next week will see a slew of new releases, including a top contender for the number one slot, Ridge Racers 2. Other notable launches include Scarface, Championship Manager 2007, and Gothic 3.

XBots keep deluding yourself when it was said by Elspa that 86% of fifa '07 sales were on PS2.

I love how Americans harp on about our charts like there is something very wrong with British people. This chart has a bit of diversity, not just 10 sports games. The highest selling game last year was suprise suprise, Madden! Go look at the US charts and like 70% of the charts are sports titles.

Fifa 07 isnt actually that bad, not as good as Pro Evo 5 but not bad at all. Pro Evo 6 will outsell because people in the UK are finally starting to realize it's a superiour game.

I wouldn't say the whole british population has a bad taste in games and music shadow you mug it's just these little kids who are brain washed from tv......

I swear to god, if PES doesn't kick FIFA's ass off top spot when it's first released, there is something terribly wrong with the United Kingdom.

lol at the yanks who are gutted because they don't see DS games plague our chart unlike yours. That top 10 list isn't too bad. You cannot call us brits for liking Fifa's when rubbish like Madden tops the charts in the US, Fifa is a very popular franchise and kids (and adults alike) enjoy the authenticity and looks of the game, not the playability (although i think that Fifa's have gotten better over the years), it'll be the same story for Pro Evo 6 when thats out next week.

Cars in the top 10 chart though? wtf. Nice to see PGR3 at number 10, that is a truly excellent game.

Please keep in mind that not everyone in the UK knows about quality of a game, and most like football. Ergo, huge sales for football games. Yay!

Fifa.. again.. -sigh- Yeah, I agree most UK people have real bad taste - it's insane that I am surrounded by 'people' who'd have a mental breakdown if they missed a TV episode of Eastenders or some **** on Big Brother.. it's the same with games.

The sheep-like crowds follow others blindly into consuming this stuff. Especially with the chavs, word spreads like fire...

    "brightshadow525
No offense to and UK people but.... they have really bad tastes according to this...."

LOL none taken (from me anyways). People in the UK have awful, chavtastic tastes.
FIFA 07 is one example.. ALL the gamers in the UK mostly bought ANOTHER Fifa update? Wasn't it the world cup just a few months before??

People in the UK also have terrible music tastes too... good musicians (mostly) and songwriters (sometimes) but the chart is as thus ... muse... then.. wait for it... mcfly.. I mean, thats like FIFA 07 and MGS3 Subsistence being right next to eachother in the chart.. except, you wouldnt have Solid Snake in it, you would have some annoying bunch of teens who can barely sing, and only are liked because they are sold that way (lol).

Charts aren't fair, because a fact of life is that the majority of people love HYPE, and buy in on the latest thing.. Brain Age is great, but not awesome. And remember this isnt a chart of greatness, its a chart showing the amount of chavs who purchase the game multiple times just to say "oi! i got this game like to time innit like". Same as the music chart would have a bunch of emos buying the SAME kinds of albums.

Seeming to make the titles the norm.. but generally, normal people buy things as and when they like. But the majority of these charts are built purely from the degenerates, low-lifed scum which populates the earth.. we know them sometimes are "trendies"... lol.. im kidding of course

ps2 is king thus far. BUT... PS2 is supreme king of the consoles.. why? because it offers good graphics, and the same kinds of games for less.

Sony should of taken a leaf out of their own book for the ps3. all people who say "360 sucks" and stuff better stop, because that chart just might show something different next year.
Where the cheaper console get's the games in on the charts. just like handheld charts before it...

The 360 has two titles in the top ten, just under an extremely successful DS game.. for the 360 to really provide this kind of presence in this chart has to be something, considering PGR3 has been out like a year now.

Imagine what the chart will be like after christmas!! I think wii, and ds and ps2 games will dominate. With the 360 maybe getting one or two titles in.. like sonic.. and gears of war maybe..

    who knows!

....................... Unlike the US charts this chart counts all formats under the same title .. otherwise it would show Fifa ps2 as 1 , Fifa on DS at 2 , fifa on 360 at 3 , fifa on Gc at 4 , fifa on Xbox at 5 , fifa on PSP at 6 , Fifa on Pc at 7 , Fifa on Mobile at 8. Fifa on GBA at 9 and Fifa on Mac at 10 ... I wonder how well Pro Evo will do this year against FIFA ? i think people are starting to be won over to the "better" version of the beautiful game. ...................... Now if only Konami weren't such tight wads and would actually buy some more licenses so we could play with real teams !!

Where does gamespot say they use the format that sold the most because for all we know they may just pick at random or use there own data like which one format is tracked the most for that game or something like that to decide which goes in the chart.

HXCDEW: Difficult for you to comprehend it would seem.

My statement was based on data from the ELSPA where they list the 360 as dominating the charts. This is not the first time GameSpot have posted incorrect chart data as can be seen in the link below where the PS2 version of Lego Star Wars is in the chart twice. When I checked GameSpots stated source "Leisure software charts compiled by Chart Track, (C)2006 ELSPA Ltd for 10/1/06 to 10/7/06" it was actually Lego Star Wars for the 360 which was at number one that week and not the PS2 version.

haloj, the chart lists games that have sold the most copies. Those games are "multiplatforms" and despite being available across various platforms, they've sold the most on PS2. How hard is that to comprehend?

  • haloj

    That chart is inaccurate anyway.

Just Cause and Lego Star Wars are actually 360 games. I'm not sure why they are listed as PS2 here.

See the chart at the data source.

The 360s still catching on, seriously. PS2 has been out for what, 5 years, and the 360 not even 1. The 360 already has 2 games in top 10, and not even 1 million 360s have been sold in the UK yet. If you see the game sales compared to the amount of consoles sold in that region as a percentage, then the 360 isn't doing so badly.
