Harvey Birdman grounded until 2008

Capcom holds on to legal eagle's first gaming flight for a few more months to avoid some competition.

Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law needs some room to soar. That's the basic reasoning Capcom gave this weekend for delaying the release of Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and Wii until next year.

Capcom's senior director of strategic planning and research Christian Svensson responded to a message board post on Saturday asking why online retailers were listing the game with a 2008 launch date.

"The game is and has been finished, submitted and approved," Svensson wrote, "however we felt releasing the game on the same day 112 other SKUs released was not ideal for its chances. Retail buyers agreed."

"As such, we've opted to move the title out into a slightly cleaner release window. This will allow us to get on more shelves, do a bit more outreach to the media and hopefully get the fans in on the action a bit more."

Some of the competition Capcom hoped to get away from is actually going to be joining Harvey Birdman in 2008, as Electronic Arts today delayed Army of Two until next year as well. Both games had previously been scheduled for release on November 13.

[UPDATE] A Capcom representative has narrowed the new release window for Harvey Birdman, telling GameSpot that the title is now expected to ship in January.

I don't understand, half of the most anticipated games are being delayed until next year. so they are just going to face the same problem next year as well.

if capcom wants me to buy this game but wait sooooooo long for it, they better put in some extras to compensate. like say.... the first 2 seasons as unlockable bonuses? i'm sure fans will agree.

Harvey Birdman!? Come on. On the other hand, Capcom is the publisher, on the other hand I just grew, the developer is High Voltage Software, which I haven't heard of, on the other tiny plastic hand I use to scratch my back with, the have been several cases of small studios who have made great video games, like Bungie, who was published by Microsoft. So it's to take a lookat or hear feedback.

Good call for Capcom. This a move often employed by the movie industry, yet seemingly not enough in the game industry.

Looking forward to this game. I mean, Capcom brought us Phoenix Wright and that is a great series. And with the crew they have going, it might be a good game.

Can't really say I'm interested in the game, but it's good to see publishers are getting smart about releasing games. I'm so sick of having 20,000 games being released at the end of the year, and then being stuck in the doldrums during the summer.

Probbly moved it since they know it's a horrid game and I doubt it'll sell whatever time they bring it out Capcom = Sucks

Smart. It's hard to compete against established games coming out now like Phoenix Wright 3, and it's better to wait for a drought.

I distinctly remember the circumstances surrounding the release of Tales of Symphonia: game drought on all consoles with the Gamecube having no RPGs plus a preorder bonus. It made ToS a resounding success.
