Shippin' Out April 26-May 1: X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Velvet Assassin

Activision and Raven's violent actioner mutates onto all relevant platforms this week, as Replay deploys long-in-the-making tactical shooter.

When Activision releases the Raven Software-developed X-Men Origins: Wolverine this Wednesday, it will feature the sociopathic mutant stabbing, dismembering, decapitating, and in all other ways mutilating foes with his adamantium-coated claws. Funny, then, that Raven's gore-fest adaptation will tie in to the gore-free PG-13 film of the same name. X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which headlines the release slate for the week of April 26-May 2, will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PSP, Wii, DS, and PC.

Whereas Wolverine's story takes him through fictional trenches of the very real World War II, Southpeak Games and Replay Studios' Velvet Assassin tells a story based on Violette Szabo, an actual spy during the conflict. Originally announced in 2006 under the moniker Sabotage, Velvet Assassin was later expanded to the Xbox 360 as well. A tactical shooter, the game features a heavily stylized art style that plays out through the heroine's subconscious.

Nintendo's and Sony's portables will receive titles that have already proven to be quite popular in Japan. On the DS, Atlus has armed Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier, the latest installment in the mech-flush sci-fi Japanese role-playing game franchise. The PSP will see its own new installment in a long-running Japanese series, as Koei has on tap this week Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce.

For further details on the week's games, visit GameSpot's New Releases page. The full list of downloadable games on the PlayStation Store, Xbox Live Marketplace, and the Wii Shop Channel will be revealed later this week. Release dates are based on retailer listings and are subject to change.

looking forward to Virtual On, if Sega did anything right it was their arcade titles

Velvet Assassin looks effing horrible but I'm actually stoked just to see critics tear it apart

Finally! I've been waiting for Banjo-Tooie to be released on XBLA for months. It might even distract from Peggle for a while..

If I was a male porn star, I'd go by the name Velvet Assassin.

Can't believe Koei is still bringing the Dynasty Warriors, though. Those games were decaying on the PS2; what stage are they at now?

Can't wait for the Wolverine game....and just for the record the game was in the process of being made before the movie. It has been in development for 2 and a half years. So it isn't a true movie game. It's suppose to be 12-15 hours long too, which is awesome.

@frosal i dont get why you would get a game that you think sucks unless you are getting it on PC and bit torrent it or what not i just dont see someone wasting money for a game they think will suck especially now in this great economy even though im making alot more in the stock market then i was when it was two high i cant wait for it to go back to 10k so i can make 4 million

I'm psyched for Virtua On. I used to love that game. I'll wait for reviews on Wolverine but it looks pretty good.

Wolverine may actually be a great game. I hope it is. Even if it is a movie game, that doesn't necessarily mean that it's going to be bad. The DS version probably is, though. The ones made by Raven should be good. They seem to know how to make good games. A lot of my fav games were made by them. I hope they don't mess Wolverine up. It's funny how a game based on a PG-13 movie will have a M rating. Blood 'n guts 'n Wolvie actually using his claws on the bad guys. It should be cool.

Heh...man, the store I work for sucks with video games. We hardly get in ANY titles, but that could just be because they don't really care about selling games...even if it is one of the few things still selling in this crud-filled economy. All we're getting for the consoles and handhelds is Velvet Assasin and Wolverine. I'm suprised that we're not getting Dynasty Warriors...

....but not really. Those games don't really sell well at my store, maybe one or two will sell when it comes out then the rest just languish in our inventory. Place isn't really in a good place for movie and game sales, stuff that the masses should flock to usually ends up sticking around for a bit. Oh well. Blech, I'm starting to talk about work on here... X_x

"Im not hyped for Velvet Assassian, it looks alrite, nothing special. But i am curious to see how Wolverine is."

    Two words.

Movie game. (Well, comic game but it's based off the movie).

Banjo-Tooie & Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram Ver.5.66 should hold me. I love games of this caliber. I'm hoping that both Rare and Sega keep it real with these hardcore releases.
