GameStop celebrates Scarface launch

Retailer holds premiere party for Vivendi Games' adaptation of Al Pacino flick at Miami nightclub.

With the game adaptations of Al Pacino's '80s epic about a drug-running immigrant's rise to power (and precipitous fall) on their way to stores, GameStop celebrated the release last night with a Scarface launch party at the Miami, Florida, nightclub Mansion.

In keeping with the game's star-studded cast of voice actors, the event drew a number of its own famous faces. In addition to original Scarface cast member Robert Loggia, GameStop said its event also drew the likes of Indy Racing League star Helio Castroneves, former Miss Brazil Ana Carolina, and Entourage cast member Kevin "Matt's Brother" Dillon.

Attendees had the opportunity to play the game throughout the event, with Dillon and Castroneves competing to see who was the better player while raising money for charity. The pair managed to raise $10,000 for the Design A Cure cancer prevention campaign and the Andre Agassi Charitable Foundation.

Scarface: The World Is Yours is expected on store shelves next week for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC, while the PlayStation Portable is playing host to Scarface: Money. Power. Respect.

This game is great meng... But the psp is an absolute stink-fest. Its completely terrible, But its got everything a game could want!! Graphics, sounds, gameplay..

Well, it HAS got those things, but the way they put them together is just awful. Again I say COMPLETELY TERRIBLE. Absolutely diabolical.

Proposterous I tell you! Scarface on PSP is one massive waste of your short meaningless life. Well, once you play the PSP version, your life WILL have a meaning, and that meaning is the blood-red hatred for this game!

The xbox version is pretty good though, framerate aint smooth, ever (well, its ok at times, just not when turning the camera round). And the presipiece of it is fantastic, driving and stuff.. cursing..
Its great for about a week, after that you just itch to get into some stunts which arent there etc...

GTA was great because it was so free. But this game follows a plot, and a character. In the end, it gives the character s sort of Stereotypical feel, except actually defining Tony Montana, it cheapens him somewhat.

Im waiting to write a review.. silly gamespot keeps saying "product not avaliable" or something. Just wish the entire psp game was not avaliable, anywhere. Worst purchase of my life!

Gamestop should be celebrating the 800% markup on used games too, after all it paid to get matt dillions brother there. What does he charge for a personal appearence? Maybe a hot dinner at Wendy's?

ummm I got this game on Friday October 6th. Even though Pacino isn't doin' the voice, it's still pretty sick. This game is intense, and it doesn't get boring. Just play it in moderation.

Well we all knew Al Pacino wasn't doing the voice, and if you really thought he was, then you were asking for too much out of the legend. Now will the voice sound like Tony Montana? Of course it would. So many people love to impersonate that voice, that they prolly held a casting, and got the guy that sounded just right.

Now if you're expecting a good game we'll have to wait and see, anybody that will play this game will be a true Scarface fan, so I'm sure they're buying this game on the name alone, and not if it's actually good.

This doesn't really matter to me since the game will be crap anyway. How you gonna have a Scarface game without the real Scarface doing the voice. Booo!

The game was shipped out last week or so sometime, and arrived at retailers then. It was/is street dated for October 8th. Yet, EBGames/Gamestop reached an exclusive deal with Vivendi allowing them to retail the game completely legitimately as of October 5th. Any retailers selling before that broke street date, and face fines/loss of inventory if caught. As of yesterday, Scarface may be purchased completely legitimately though from any Gamestop or EBGames store, nationwide. And that is what's going on with the Scarface release -
