$20 well spent. Just the type of game I needed for my PSP.

Patapon is probably the best rhythm based games to come in a long time. I'm so glad I downloaded the demo, because before that I hadn't even heard of the game. The gameplay is simple, but dont think you can just pick it up and play. It requires a lot of strategy to complete the tougher levels. The colorful visuals are reminiscent of cartoons. The songs are really catchy; you'll find yourself singing along, and even when you're not playing the game. One of my favorite songs in the game is a short mini game where you have to press the circle button to instruct Pan the Pakapon to play his trumpet in the same pattern as Ubo Bon, the dancing tree. The key to the game is to press the square, triangle, circle, and X buttons in rhythmical patterns to command the Patapon to do different tasks. For instance, pressing square, square, square, circle will command the Patapon to march, and pressing circle, circle, square, circle will give them the order to attack, but you must press them on beat. If you can manage to get a combo going you'll eventually go into fever mode which will cause the Patapon to sing louder and attack more ferociously. There are three different types of Patapon: the Tatepon who attack with axes and shields, Yaripon, they attack by throwing spheres, and the Yumipon who us archery to attack. As you complete missions you'll find tougher weapons, shields, helmets, etc. in which you can use to upgrade your Patapon to make them stronger and inflict more damage when they attack. These little creatures don't back down from any foe as you'll notice when you have to defeat large monsters. For only $20 this game sure does offer a lot. I was willing to pay $40 and it may be worth more than that. One thing is for sure though, Patapon is an amazing game and you don't have to be a fan of rhythm based games to enjoy it.
