Command & Conquer 4 preemptively announced

EA UK's Twitter feed touts banner headline officially revealing long-rumored next installment in EALA RTS series.

This morning, the UK office of Electronic Arts posted a banner headline via its private Twitter feed, which is open only to members of the games press. The 105-character tweet speaks for itself: "EA_UK_PR New release: EA LOS ANGELES ANNOUNCES THE DEVELOPMENT OF COMMAND & CONQUER 4 http://bit.ly/LOk6R." The compressed link, however, does not speak for anything, leading merely to the Electronic Arts press site where the most recent announcement is for the forthcoming Fight Night Round 4 downloadable content.

When contacted by GameSpot, EA reps declined to comment on the apparently preemptive tweet. However, the existence of C&C4 has been an open secret for weeks, following another apparent leak out of the UK. in June, British market research firm 2CV, which lists C&C publisher Electronic Arts among its clients, posted a customer survey that outlined the game in detail and featured a picture of C&C series villain Kane on the front underneath the EA logo.

The survey revealed that C&C4 will incorporate a class system akin to a role-playing game and "MMORPG-like player progression." The modes will be persistent in both the game's single-player and multiplayer modes, which include full campaign co-op and five-on-five competitive online play. The game will also apparently feature what the survey calls "the first mobile base in RTS games," the crawler.

If C&C 4 disappoints me, well, I can always return for another round of C&C 3: Tiberium Wars. That was the best C&C game EA have ever made.

EA turned Q&Q series into crap. the only thing they done right was generals and that's because it had nothing to do with Q&Q universe, EA just stamped it as a Q&Q to boost sale. and about mobile base in RTS games, didn't homeworld have that?

I'm a PS3 owner, and I put Red Alert on my PSP and got addicted. I'm looking into RA3 on PS3 now, but I might not bother if this is in the works.

C&C generals is the only one i've played and i played only this because all the guns and the environments and all that stuff were not si-fi. generals was all modern warfare and thats why i liked it. Hopefully C&C4 wont have all that si-fi stuff

How is it a surprise or a leak that a sequel is being made to one of the most popular PC game franchises still in existence? It's not like we've learned about new units, a graphics engine, or any other details.

I would go as far as to say I expect a sequel to be in the works at all times unless its predecessor failed horribly.

If this is the last C&C then the gameplay, ending and factions must be EPIC. Plus the idiotic DRM must be removed. Dont screw this one EA .

EA, stop making sequels to C&C and Red Alert. The series should have ended when Westwood fell apart. Make your own god damn franchises and stop turning good old games into cheap thrill, fan service whores.

I would prefer they take their time with this one... Although I loved C&C 3, Red alert 3 was a shocker... it was fun sure, but it took everything that made it a C&C game and threw it out the window. A lot of you are asking for a new generals, and I would tend to agree. As much as I want to carry on with the GDI and NOD story, I think we all need a break
