PS3 NBA Live swatted to next season

Once a showcase for EA Sports on PS3, NBA Live 07 is now canceled; PS3 basketball sim expected to start dribbling next season.

One of the highlights of Sony's E3 2006 presentation was a demonstration from EA Sports that showed the differences between the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 versions of NBA Live 07. As many had presumed from the E3 presentation, EA was gearing up to tip off the PS3 launch with the game, and at one point officially confirmed that fact.

Unfortunately for EA hoops fans, the PS3 has been cut from NBA Live 07's team of platforms. EA Sports confirmed to GameSpot today that the PS3 edition of NBA Live 07 has been canceled.

"Our PS3 designs for NBA Live are very ambitious and we did not want to rush the game this year," an EA Sports rep told GameSpot. "We expect that NBA Live will be available on PS3 next season."

All is not lost for future PS3 owners and fans of EA's basketball games, though. The rep also cited development of NBA Street Homecourt, due early next year on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

There will still be two PS3 launch-day options for basketball fans. Day-one titles include Sony's NBA 07 and 2K Sports' NBA 2K7.

You know, I think they exaggerated the PS2's 'weakness' to the PS3, especially in the Responsiveness demo. Come on, no decent PS2 game ever made looks that scratchbooked. And the Footplant demo wasn't showing the full potential of the 'old' system. But I'm glad that they decided to move NBA back a year. Just looked what happened to Madden this year, when they started to rush it's development. If you take more time, you usually get a better game. It's a tested and true formula.

I don't think anyone will miss this POS on the new system...please EA let us just forget this hoops tragedy--hopefully the NBA doesn't think about dealing exclusive rights.

This reminds me of something I can't seem to figure it out, wait, I'll get it. THAT'S IT, the N64 cancellation/postponement era. And we all remember how well that system sold compared to PSX.

EA should simply fess up and admit that Live 07 was critically panned across the board on all systems by all reviewers/most gamers and they don't want to lose more dough by publishing a PS3 edition. They're likely going back to the drawing board and hopefully will put out a quality title rather than the drivel they've been peddling for years.

EA should stop making this series all together! It's practically dead already!

Playstation 3 games get cancelled and delayed very often because Playstation 3 is a major disappointment.

Playstation 3 games in the past, present, and future will continue to suffer cancelled games like this.

Words that I thought would never escape my mouth but....GOOD JOB EA! It's about time someone in the EA camp realized how bad NBA Live 2007 really was. No amount of fixing could have put this broken game together in time for a ps3 launch. It should have been canned for the 360 too as bad as it was. But perspective ps3 owners can take pride in the fact that they're getting one very great basketball game in NBA 2k7 on their console, and can enjoy the same basketball greatness that Xbox 360 owners have been for a few months now.

WOW this is good because if you take you time on doing a good game then that will mean that this game will have to be good because of the time spent!

NBA Live stopped was crap after it left PS1. Now tell me I'm lying. NBA 2K needs to be the only basketball franchise out their. It was the sh** ever since it hit the dreamcast. It is one of the most beautiful looking basketball games I ever seen. I'll prove to you how NBA Live is not better than NBA 2K7. Look at Iverson on Live and look at him on 2K. Plus if you are a baller than you know that 2K is more of a simulation style game than arcade. Live smells like a thousand asses. Visual Concepts for Basketball and EA Sports for Madden. Hell maybe they can even team up for the basketball franchise some day but I doubt it.
