2006 holid-EA lineup revealed

Tiger takes his swings this October, NFL Street 3 announced for PlayStation 2, PSP; Half-Life Episode 2...not on the list?

Though it's only July, it's never too early to plan a holiday shopping list. Finding the right thing for the right person can be quite a chore, but if those on your list happen to be gamers, Electronic Arts has a few options to choose from. While most of the games on the list have been known about for some time, there were some new ones.

EA's grip on the pigskin continues not only with the recently released NFL Head Coach and the upcoming NCAA Football 07 and Madden NFL 07, but also with NFL Street 3 for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable. The over-the-top action of the series returns with new power-ups and game modifiers that can be snatched from the air to make the game extreme times two.

Also of note is a release period for Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07. The game, which will be released on the Xbox 360, Xbox, PlayStation 2, PSP, and PC, hits the links in October. A PlayStation 3 version is scheduled for release this fall, but it is currently unclear whether it will be a launch title or not.

Speaking of launch titles, NBA Live 07 for the PS3 was not included on EA's release schedule, but it has been confirmed by an EA rep to be a launch title for Sony's next-gen system.

Though it was previously revealed by online retailers, EA has also confirmed that the PSP version of The Godfather will be named The Godfather: Mob Wars and will have an exclusive mode called...yep, Mob Wars. EA describes the mode as "a turf war" where gamers maneuver mobsters and "play the right cards to take control of NYC one territory at a time."

Curiously, one of the most anticipated PC games EA will distribute, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, was not on the list--previously, the game was pegged for a fourth-quarter 2006 release. Nor was any mention made of the widely rumored Xbox 360 version of Half-Life 2. EA did not return requests for comment as of press time.

For more information on all the games, check back tomorrow for GameSpot's coverage of EA's press event.

ok first of all, anyone who is complaining about too many sequals: they're freakin sports games!! how do you make anything but a sequal?!?! And to all of the people asking "where is this game that i want really badly but doesn't happen to be on this list?" if you'd read more closely you would see that these are only 2006 games and your beloved game is probably coming out in 07 (specifically nascar 07 and any wii game). For everyone hating on sports games, forget you and your final fantasy and warcraft. sports games are probably the best selling genre of games out there and if you don't like them, go write on some other message board b/c we all know ea is primarily known for their sports games.

Looking forward to NFS: Carbon... but why Fifa 07 wasn't in it? No news from EA also regarding the game? No screenshots, no trailers? why?

sport that has no intrest to me (where is FIFA, but Pro Evolution Soccer is ggod for me), games with epesodic content that are waful (to me atleast) and a game that focuses on future when it did best at presence.
and yeah street racing that is just for casual.
so in easy way to say this is: this laen up is crap.

have always looked forward to madden until 2004... 2005+ suck, and EA needs to take the Tiburon team off the case... EA Sports is the definition of casual gamer and they've been making lackluster, mediocre titles for a couple years now... bring me a Madden worth buying again, for that matter bring me a new Madden engine that actually plays like Football and not an arcade game...

Adultgmr77 says: "It looks as though most of you video gamers aren't sports fans AT ALL. You guys are crazy, if you enjoy watching/participating in football you have always waited for Madden/NCAA football every year. People rip these sports games from EA or any other developers and say they are not very entertaining video games. According to most post on this website and others, video gamers guys hate sports (majority). You guys must have been dreading P.E. in high school and never participatied in sports in school. Hey I just bringing to the forefront that not ALL video gamers can't wait for Legend of Zelda, HALO, God of War, sports game sell VERY well every year due to the fact sports fans enjoy video game sports. Get over it video game nerds. Go outside and get some exercise, pull yourselves away from the T.V./Console/P.C. and get in some REAL activities BESIDES video games. I LOVE video games but I am a very avid sports fan as well and very much enjoy sports in reality and virtual reality, but some of you guys need to open your eyes to why EA releases so many sports games every year. Sports are EXTREMELY influential and popular, and some of you need some exercise and also socialize with people besides when you play online."

Awesome rant. Yeah, I agree with some of what you say. People love to hate EA because it's easy to do the same thing everyone else is doing. But EA offers the best sports games on the market, hands down. The only sports where they don't offer the best titles on the market are soccer, golf and tennis. They make the best sports in every other traditional sport category. Even before any exclusive licensing agreements. Hate EA if you must, but don't put down their sports titles. The are of excellent quality and saying anything else than that simply isn't true.

Same sh*t, different year. That should be EA's motto.

    Looking forward to Madden Wii.

Only sequels... SAD. And they are not even sequels to original games. They are sequels to sequels of other sequels that were sequels before most of you were even born.

    Depressing.
