MLB 2K10: Producers Talk Franchise Mode

2K Sports has released the latest information on its upcoming baseball game and, this time, focuses on Franchise mode.

2K Sports has released the latest developer insight blog for Major League Baseball 2K10, and this one covers the game's Franchise mode. MLB 2K10 assistant producer Mike Del Santo is the author here, and he covers a good deal of the new content that's made it into franchise, including 40 Man Rosters, September call-ups, compensation picks, spring training, and more. Good news for fans who missed the ability to edit players in MLB 2K9:

"I want to get a quick concern I know many of you had last year out of the way immediately: We have brought back full ability to edit players and their stances/windups, including the ability to give any player any signature stance/windup that we have (this will be available both in Franchise mode and in the front end)."

Del Santo writes that he believes compensation picks will have the most impact on how users play through Franchise mode:

"In a lot of Franchise modes (especially in baseball games with the wide payroll ranges between the big-market and small-market teams), it is very difficult to ever take a team like the Royals, Pirates, or any other low-payroll team and turn them into a legitimate contender. Compensation picks can be thought of as something that can help these lower payroll teams to level the playing field against the big-market teams like the Yankees and Red Sox.

Other highlights include the ability to play both AA and AAA games in Franchise and Exhibition modes (Birmingham Barons, here I come!). There's also a super sim mode that will let you quickly get through season games without relinquishing total control of your team and improved filtering when looking for players or looking for specific trades.

Looking forward to this game, but I didn't know you couldn't edit players last year! OMG that is weak. Glad it's in this year, that would be a show stopper for me.

2k10 while it wasn't a very good game last year or any year in recent memory. It has much more upside than the good looking smooth but button mashing game that is the show. I look forward to 2k10 each year bc if they ever clean out the glitches it will be instantly much better than the show. At least 2k10 is trying to do something great while the show sticks with the same formula that was used way back in Griffey presents major league baseball.

I wouldn't just shut down the franchise or immediately close it all down because they do some things well. but that being said show does beat it into the ground so it should take something from that and improve game play and take aspects that make the show that much better.

The Show always beats out the 2K series. Always have and always will. They need to get the message and close up shop.

as usual, 2K sports and visual concepts add new features without fixing the problems everyone complains about

    MLB2K9 sucks hard!!!

Anyway, I have big expectations about the release for this year. I hope they fixed all the wrong decisions and bad code of MLB2K9.

That's great and all, it really is, but they need to go back and really take a look at what happened to this game. This was once a excellent game but the bugs have just killed this game. You fix those things then knock yourself out adding all that cool stuff.

lookin good. i still will expect glitches and freezing until they prove me wrong. graphically it looks comparable to MLB 08 the show which is fine. Looks like the gameplay could surpass the show. Still dont like how they tell us about what they have fixed but wont stand behind their product yet on issues as freezing and online issues. It is truly what people want to hear most and I smell a functional game that will require patches once again to address issue. Its early and I hope they prove me wrong
