Last Remnant PC emerges in spring

Square Enix's original RPG arrives with new content on Games for Windows next year; PS3 edition remains TBA.

Square Enix's The Last Remnant was initially announced back in May 2007 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Unbeknownst to the public at large, however, the publisher was also prepping a PC edition of the game. With the PS3 game still bearing a "to be announced" release window, Square Enix said today that The Last Remnant will see a Games for Windows release in North America and PAL regions in spring 2009.

The Xbox 360 edition of The Last Remnant, released on November 20, failed to capture critics in the way that Square Enix may have hoped. However, it was the game's underwhelming performance issues, and not the core game, that drew the lion's share of critics' ire.

According to Square Enix, the PC release of The Last Remnant will expand on the Xbox 360 game with "features previously not available." Unfortunately, the publisher did not delve into what these features may be.

Square Enix also did not indicate whether the PC release would benefit from the upcoming downloadable content packs slated for the Xbox 360 game. Beginning this month, the publisher plans to roll out a series of free add-ons for the Xbox 360 edition, as well as three premium tactical formations.

Don't worry about the PS3 cause the PS3 has a lot under the hood to hold up TLR.
    (Not a Sony fanboy, i actually own a X360)
Had to install TLR to make it run as it should. lol

JRPG's are meant to be played on consoles, not PC
I just cant think of myself playing like Eternal Sonata or something with a keyboard and a mouse
Since the 360 version sucked, im looking for the PS3 version

if they improve on the pc version im expecting them to improve on the ps3 version, however the hard to program cell processor might create more technical issues, then again they have a huge chunk of time and if they utilze the ps3's power like EA with RA3 then we a winner

I agree with gobbo00....FF has gone downhill since IX. X was pretty good too, but the stories have seemed to be the bottom of the list since then. I would like to see the future of gaming have more of a storyline, now that graphics technology is reaching a pinnacle. I am excited for lost remnant though....maybe it will be the start of what I hope for in JRPGs.

Another March release about which to be excited. I can't wait, this game looks great, the only drawback is I'll have to use a PC compatible 360 controller. Unless anyone has any other suggestions.

With any luck the PS3 version will be the definitive version. I've tinkered with the 360 version and LR seemed to have the right ingredients for a major new franchise. The world is richly imagined, the scenario, is captivating, and most of the characters are interesting. The technical issues, however, are glaring and the lack of transparency in the mechanics of the battle system does not allow the beauty of its innovativeness to shine.

hmm cant wait to play the game...spring?means Q1 of 2009 rite?
being a JRPG Fans for years...and never expect JRPG will come on pc..until they announce that last remnant will be here...
hmm no offence for console owners...but nowadays...pc as gaming machine definitely dominates the others!!(given that u hv a good pc)

This decision seems so weird to me. I can't think of any audience smaller then a hardcore PC gamer who plays JRPGs. If it's a good port, however, I'll give it a go. If not, I'll see how the PS3 version looks, if that one looks iffy too, then I'll install it on the 360 hard drive, and by then the game will be cheaper anyways.

You'ld think if any JRPG made it to PC, it would be Lost Odyssey. It's on an engine that's PC-friendly, it's the most successful JRPG on the 360 to date, and it's a Microsoft-owned property.

hopefully the ps3 will clear up the technical issues with this game. i'm dying to play this one, and will get it regardless of graphical issues. i can overlook those, and the battle system looks like something i will defintiely obsess over

I do miss the old squaresoft... Here's to hoping the PS3 version comes out sometime in 2009 before Final Fantasy. I'd get the 360 version, but I somehow think the PS3 version is going to have a little bit more like Eternal Sonata.

Haven't tried it myself... I'll wait and see if a PS3 version comes out... only problem I heard was the unreal engine playing up badly with textures, which I can imagine would bug the hell outta me... but then, it's the first time they've used the unreal engine, so there was bound to be issues... wouldn't be suprised if they fix the issue, at least a little bit, through some online patch.
to Darth Xehanort... how can you say no other platforms work for Jrpg's? FF1 for the NES was truly a masterpeice... also Crisis core is pure awesomness on the PSP... as for the PS3, haven't seen anything that jumps out and says "woo look at this great JRPG" but I'm thinking FFXIII will be pretty good... unlike some I think the series is fine and always having improvements made, so if it's anything like the hype it should be great.

An awful lot of critical ire was pointed at the combat system, too.

so blue dragon, lost oddisy, eternal sonarta & tales of versipa are awful by your account then? I think it is more to do with Square-enix steady loosing key people over the years. That and the UT3 engine that was used in the last remnant, is a older version to the one on offer now. On another note if issues (perfomance or otherwise) persist with Square-enix products my hopes Final Fantasy games are dwindling by the minute. In my mind Final Fantasy games have taken a nose dive since FF9. Production values aside the games seem to have less & less content in them. And with the removal of a exploreable world map since FF9 being key to FF's downward turn.

I'm just waiting for the PS3 version, the real way it's meant to be played.

I'm sorry, but other platforms have failed when trying to do well with JRPG's, thus far.
