Marv Wolfman joins DC Universe Online

The New Teen Titans, Crisis on Infinite Earths, Batman, and Superman scribe will help pen scenarios for Sony Online Entertainment's forthcoming superhero MMO game.

When famed comic book artist Jim Lee signed on to DC Universe Online in 2006, comic fans' interest in the massively multiplayer online role-playing game grew. Today, that interest was piqued again by Sony Online Entertainment's announcement that writer Marv Wolfman has also joined the project, which is set for release on the PC and PlayStation 3 later this year.

Wolfman first grew to prominence for creating the vampire hunter Blade--later turned into the Wesley Snipes films--for Marvel Comics in the early 1970s. Among comic circles, he is best known for his mid-1980s work for the limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths, which rewired the entire DC Universe timeline, affecting thousands of characters. He has worked on such titles as The New Teen Titans, Batman, Superman, and Nightwing, and penned the novelization of the 2006 film Superman Returns.

"As a gamer, this is a dream project in many ways," Wolfman said in a statement. "I get to create new stories in the DC Universe that will make this video game world a truly unique, unforgettable experience." SOE president John Smedley played up the writer's participation, saying that it shows that DC Universe Online "is a true collaboration between the top talent at DC and SOE."

Wow now I really can't wait to get this game. With Marv Wolfman writing the story might be better than Final Fantasy XI's. Maybe there will be even more good news and Geoff Johns will also be a writer for this game as well.
