Alpha Protocol slips to October

Sega and Obsidian Entertainment's modern-day espionage RPG slots into a new fall release window on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

February was supposed to be the month in which Sega was to ship Obsidian Entertainment's Alpha Protocol. However, instead of announcing the action role-playing game's imminent arrival, Sega said that its other Obsidian collaboration--operating under the working title Aliens RPG--had been indefinitely suspended. Alpha Protocol, too, had ostensibly hit the skids as the month came and went with no word of a hard release date from Sega.

That changed today when Sega provided an updated release window for the espionage-heavy action game, saying that Alpha Protocol is now expected to ship worldwide for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in October. Along with revealing Alpha Protocol's delay, Sega also offered a handful of new screenshots for the game, showing protagonist Michael Thorton in various states of threat.

A modern-day espionage tale, Alpha Protocol weaves a story not unlike Robert Ludlum's popular Jason Bourne novels. The plot follows the aforementioned secret agent Thorton, who has turned rogue after being disavowed by his government. However, given that the game accommodates a branching storyline a la BioWare's sci-fi RPG Mass Effect, players can assume a variety of undercover personas, ranging from a suave James Bond-style spy, to one like the maniacal Jack Bauer of 24 fame.

Its starting to seem like almost everything is getting delayed these days.
Or it could be just me.

Although October is a long way away it was pretty obvious this was gonna get delayed..the quality just wasn't there the last time we saw this. This project has so much potential and a delay like this will give the developers the time they need to fully flesh out it's true potential making it the best game they can possibly make. I'm just counting down the months before I grab this one.

As long as the game comes out this year i don't mind the wait. I want the game to be good as well as fun to play. much like Bioware's Mass effect.

This is good. Publisher thinking about the game rather than the money. Good games = good money, Bad games = Patches = Less money. IE Metal Gear Solid 4, they pushed it few more months look at it, perfect, no patches. Looks good, have to check it out when it comes out.

Chris Avellone (the mastermind behind some of Black Isle's greatest games) is the lead designer on this one, I'm really looking forward to seeing what he has in store.
