E3 2008: Gran Turismo TV E3 Sony Conference Impressions

More of Sony's online TV service was revealed during its E3 press conference, which will include motor racing from all over the world.

While Gran Turismo 5 Prologue was lauded for its realistic handling and incredible graphics, many racing fans were just as excited about the GT TV feature, which promised a plethora of online shows. The service was fleshed out a little more today, when Sony announced a host of new HD content for the platform, as well as an official roll-out date of August 1 2008.

Top of the list of GT TV content is Top Gear, the British motoring show that has found an international audience online. Jeremy Clarkson and co. will be joining the service with an unconfirmed number of episodes, a fact that Sony flaunted as often as possible during the presentation.

Alongside Top Gear are lots of new shows under the "Gran Turismo TV" banner. These include live events, such as the D1 Grand Prix, the Super GT Suzuka, and 24-hour Nurburgring racing. In addition to this, Gran Turismo 5 producer Kazunori Yamauchi will be presenting shows such as "All About Ferrari," which will look at the Italian brand's heritage, test circuits, and manufacturing facilities.

Sony is also planning shows that concentrate on specific vehicles, such as the GT-R Legend and first impressions of the Lancer Evolution X. According to the presentation, all GT TV content will be presented in full high definition, but no details on pricing or availability were made clear.

GT TV is another neat feature of the Prologue package, and it will finally be released on August 1 2008.

    at risk of sounding like a "360" fanboy i'd like to offer my .02 cents. I have gt5 prologue for ps3 and forza 2 for 360. For once I think the ps3 nailed the graphics over the 360 (which i feel is rare) BUT Forza 2 just feels so much better on so many levels. it feels heavier, more realistic, and there are so many more options. I realize that the full gt5 has yet to appear, but if Prologue is a sample of whats to come, it has a long way to go.... gt5 doesn't even leave skid marks!

    GT has never got the 'feel' right IMHO Forza and PGR are much better games

    Totally agree mate. I haven't enjoyed a game as much as Forza 2 since the first GT. Forza 2 handling felt perfect, whereas in GT5 Prologue, the whole thing felt a little... artificial. I don't think the GT5 Prologue fixed camera (while using the exterior view) helped either.

    They need to get it out soon though, who's gonna care this time in a year when we'll probably be approaching Forza 2? BTW, I think we've all seen every Top Gear episode 50 times on the Dave channel, but the live motorsport is an excellent idea!

    Holy $?@&!!!, this game still isn't out.. I thought it was already out. I remember this time last year talking to my boss that I wanted this game and knew about it for over a year before then. Wow, they really are dragging their ass on this release... They keep this up and by the time they finally do release it, nobodies going to care anymore, because they got tired of waiting and getting their hopes up on failed release dates.

    as long as they are making sure it's going to be a kick ass game and not a massive FAIL like most of the games developers are putting these days for the ps3

    What about some Real updates...like PHYSICAL DAMAGE on the vehicles. I mean seriously, sony common now...

    I havn't bought this game yet, but now i'm going to have to. this service sounds amazing but if it is more than $15 a month than i'm going to have to pass. I have to many bills already.

    I love Top Gear ^_^, but I'm satisfied watching it on my TV.
