Gran Turismo 5 goes behind the wheel

French motorsports show confirms next PS3 installment of Polyphony Digital racing series to introduce in-car viewpoints.

Late last year, Gran Turismo designer Kazunori Yamauchi told fans that the next installment in his popular driving simulation series would reflect a change in the franchise's core principles and become "a fully realized online car life simulation."

While it might not be one of the "core principles" Yamauchi referred to last year, the designer did confirm one change in store for the next Gran Turismo in a recent Polyphony Digital profile by French motorsports program Turbo. For the first time in a Gran Turismo game, players will be able to select an inside-the-car viewpoint with the steering wheel and dashboard visible.

"To translate the real car into 3D, we use data and assets provided by the car manufacturers, but we also use a scanner that completely digitizes a car," Yamauchi told the show. "Here's a scoop: We're also modeling the dashboards because you can drive from the interior view in the upcoming Gran Turismo 5."

When asked about the Gran Turismo five in-car views and recent rumors of downloadable content for Gran Turismo HD for the PlayStation 3, a Sony representative told GameSpot, "We haven't made any recent announcements on the GT franchise."

Hopefully GT5 can top the greatness that is Forza 2. As for the in car view thing..thats cool. Ive seen it done already in PGR3 where it looked mighty nice.

    boozer:
actually ive been a GT and PS fan the whole time, but forza has had better AI aaaand i think better physics, including crash physics(not damages i mean like when two cars get together) and also forza seems for real like the AI screws up everyonce and a while, its like they feel the pressure too lol, but overall GT is still way better

GT has always been better than forza, graphics wise, physics wise, and customizably as in you can put all sorts of different upgrades and stuff. the ONLY thing it ever lacked was online multiplayer. I guessing (since all games that r on 360 now that r online r PS3 online) that GT5 will also be online. So if GT5 pulls that off the game will be superior over forza in ALL areas

If only it would come out for the 360!! ~sob~
Hopefully PGR4 & NFS PS will make up for it.
I've played Forza 2, its good but fo sho GT5 will be better.

Add collision damage and maybe a little online multiplayer, and we've got another killer PD title.

    PS
And Gloss paint and chrome loves the Next Game machine's. I have to love the wet look of the vary arcade like Need for speed Underground series, on Next Gens. I expect to see GT have a nice shine to it also. Epically on the city tracks. I think Forza kind stayed to this vary dry look that was in Forza 1 also. It may be bad reflections or something. It just looks dry to me. Theirs another things that turn me off of that game. But for some reason I looked over at the related games, and thought about that too. Kinda a tiny little thing,,, but???

Their will be damage also. But im not really big on damage in GT. Becuase it allows for closer bumper to bumper racing. And He also mentioned,, weather effects that change during races. Not all the time, but in some races. Thing is,, when you think about this team,, this team was able to make a game look unreal on some shabby hardware from like 95 or whenever. And they have said GT HD is GT4 ported to the PS3 "which we all kinda knew. It was not a real GT 5. GT 5 with their talent is not going ot be bad by any means. They made games in the past look better than what was expected out of the hardware of the PS1 and PS2. Can you imagine if they make a game that looks above and beyond what the PS3 can do! And thats what I expect. Those cars and tracks will look sweet. Thats almost a guarantee. What will it have new thow? Will see. They said look for more city tracks also. I follow race games and racing period" so I have this info form all kinds of places.

It's funny how people hate a game because it's not on the console they have. I'm all for the competition between Forza and GT because it brings us better games in the future. Who knows, maybe if GT came out first they'd leave out the in-car view. Everyone whined about it when Forza2 came out and GT is definitely learning from their mistake...competition is good.

Jeez...Just let it rest. If you like racing sims then you should like both GT and Forza. I love Forza 2 as I'm playing it currently and I loved GT3 on my PS2 for months and months. I'm sure this will be great too. Who knows how long it will be til it's released...maybe I'll have a ps3 by then too.
