Metal Gear going Online

Kojima and Co. announce online incarnation of the Metal Gear series for the PS3, a hide-and-seek-style game for up to 16 players at a time.

The first details and gameplay footage of Metal Gear Online for the PlayStation 3 were pulled out of the hat today at Konami's Metal Gear 20th Anniversary event in Japan.

The online title, which will shortly be going into closed beta with a select team of 3,000 Japanese beta testers, was one of a series of announcements that the company chose to make at its own dedicated event--as opposed to at this year's E3, where Konami caused a stir with its 15-minute press conference.

The official recruiting period for the open beta will be from July 24 to August 6, and the actual beta testing will run from August 7 to September 3. So far the open beta is also Japanese-only, although Kojima Productions assistant producer Ryan Payton stated that he would like to see the beta go international--but as yet has no official announcements.

The game will be a kind of hide-and-seek for up to 16 players at a time, and is called a "strategic multiplayer experience." It will feature the SOP system, which allows players to keep track of their teammates via nanomachines injected into their bloodstream. The nanomachines allow them to see where the rest of their team are, their condition, which way they are aiming, and their range of sight. Enemy soldiers can also be injected with nanomachines, which will enable the other team to then keep track of their movements.

Metal Gear Online will also feature playable characters and environments from Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and is slated as a PS3 exclusive.

Other Metal Gear goodies announced were Metal Gear Portable Ops Plus, Metal Gear Solid Mobile, and Metal Gear Solid 2: Bande Desinee, the latter being a graphic novel of the series viewable on the PlayStation Portable.

    those games i posted are going to be released before the end of 2007 ....btw, i didnt post the exclusives that we already have atm, before saying they suck....go play them first

    Most of those Games are **** any way. Plus haze is a timed exclusive so its coming out on 360 anyway. Ps3 sucks.

    I remember the Folklore soul was on the 360 japanese version tho. I heard that Halo3 gotten 4.4 million preorders worldwide altogether and i like 360 and ps3 The Wii is **** cause they only want little kids as the consumers and make games where no blood comes out when you kill stuff. I love my ps3 even tho the only good game out right now is Ninja gaiden sigma. Im willing to wait like a good little boy for Final Fantasy 13 i hope they never multiplat like dmc4 and mgs4 did. we knew that microsoft would start buying rites to sony companies. im more of a sony fan since playstation one which was before the xbox came out.

    Ha ha ha ha dont make me laugh. 360 is 10x better then ps3 ever will be. Ps3 is losing alot off good exclusives to 360 and not to mention we have the number 1 game halo 3. Its already got 1 million pre orders and thats a cap load better then any the ps3 games have done. Wait i minute Gears Of War has sold more copies then any of your exclusive games. Plus weve got Mass Effect, Dead Rising, halo 3, gears of War, Projec Gotham 3, Forza motoar sports, Fable 2, Lost Planet, bio Shock, Shadow run and Crack down. How many good exclusives does Ps3 have Resistence, killzone 2 and this. And this game sucks.

    xbox360 is over the only thing that it has left is halo 3 and thats hardly anything to wat ps3 is gunna start releasing...and yea i have an xbox360 and i dont like it i jsu tlike gears of war but that damn thing showed the 3 rings on it and it wont work they need to fix it for free i shouldnt even have to show them **** cuz its them who caused it.....A-holes.... so forget it im just gunna play ps3 now.....damn im mad hat mgo wont be apart of mgs4....dont wanna have to get things seperatly but ohh well....ill do it since its my fav game ever....have to get everything already got all of the other ones

    Spending money to fix it isn't a problem. Spending money over a year after the problem has arisen, in a heck of a lot of the consoles that were already aout there, is a problem though. Not even having sorted the problem before it's released again in Australia is also a particularly foolish thing to have done.

    Microsoft doesn't cheat gamers, they just milk them of their hard earned cash is all.

    LOL. Cant seem to have good news on Sonys side w/out xbots trying like hell to make there 360 purchase justified.

    Im glad MS is part of the industry because it keeps Sony on there toes. Only a company like MS can keep shoveling money year after year into an investment that makes no profit whatsoever. If it wasnt for MS making Sony do more to maintain that #1 spot I would much like to see there demise. Not cause the system or the games, but the god awful XBOTS. You guys would jump in front of a train if Bill Gates told you to.

    360 fanboys are scared and are Sh****g their pants, they are running like crazy doing circles on the floor like homer simpson when they see these news of what is coming out on PS3. The PS3 is simply the sleeping giant that is about to be awaken and that will destroy everything in its path so Xbox beware!
