PS3 expands Greatest Hits offerings

Metal Gear Solid 4, Ratchet & Clank Future, Army of Two among half-dozen catalog titles given new $29.99 price point.

While next week's Electronic Entertainment Expo 2009 is set to give gamers a peek at the biggest releases of holiday 2009 and beyond, they might need something to tide them over in the meantime. To that end, Sony today announced the latest additions to its PlayStation 3 budget-conscious line of Greatest Hits titles, games from years past that have "reached a significant sales threshold," according to the company.

Sony is adding six games to its line of $29.99 Greatest Hits: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Battlefield: Bad Company, Army of Two, Devil May Cry 4, and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. Those titles are still available in their standard releases, but the Greatest Hits-branded versions will begin to arrive in stores June 16.

This is the second batch of PS3 titles to be dubbed Greatest Hits, bringing the catalog of budget blockbusters up to 16 games. Sony revealed the first wave--including titles like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, and Resistance: Fall of Man--at its 2008 E3 media briefing. They were easy to spot on store shelves because the Greatest Hits editions came in eye-catching red-tinted Blu-ray cases.

FINALLY SONY i've been waiting for this for sooo long, the last time you expanded the list was a year ago, BUT WHERE IS UNCHARTED, that should seriously be there, even GTA4 cuz that game came out before MSG4 and has all the right to be on there, hell replace Army of 2 with GTA4

You are wrong metal gear solid 3 subsistance was NEVER on the x box. The only mgs game on the x box was substance. The whole mgs series has been on a playstation conlsole so it is a sony game. There have only been 2 mgs games on another conlsole mgs 2 substance and the mgs the twin snakes. If you include the new one it is 3 but it is still on the playstation.

yay for more "greatest hits" that are already lower than $29.99 everywhere. The only game that wasn't was R&C. Are they too incompetent to find out that their so-called GH are already lower than $30. Plus didn't GT5: prologue already was around $30. LOL!

And also...YAY for more ugly looking red boxes. I am just gonna go and find a copy of MGS4 before they put that awesome game in an ugly red box.

"The whole MGS franchise from MGS1-MGS4 is the best game ever produced for all the SONY PS consoles."

you are wring about because the remake of mgs1 was on the gamecube and mgs2 was on xbox and mgs3 subsistence was also on xbox.

The whole MGS franchise from MGS1-MGS4 is the best game ever produced for all the SONY PS consoles.
I just wish every game is like MGS..... After playing MGS1 on PS1.... no other game could match it until MGS2 on PS2.... and then MGS3....
Now that I've played MGS4 on the PS3.... there isnt any other game that I'm really interested in playing as much as MGS4.... I just hope Kojima makes MGS5 and continue on the franchise... or at least make more games like MGS!!!
Kojima has increased the standard in stealth action games, I remember playing Splinter Cell... and got bored of it after the first mission.... Nothing really compares to MGS!!!
I brought my PS2 becoz of MGS2 and my PS3 becoz of MGS4...
    Respect to Kojima!

Ha! Battlefield: Bad Company and Army of Two are under $20 at Walmart.com and Walmart stores now. So making it a Greatest Hits game INCREASES the price? Way to go, Sony!!! EA was probably the consultant on this move.

ryan69969, Ninja Gaiden Sigma is already a Greatest Hits title, already got it in a red case, and damn, it actually looks good in it's red case, one of those instances where I've gotta say it looks better that way as opposed to the original clear case.

Just in time for the E3 announcement of MGS4: Substansistance.

I agree more titles would do well as Greatest Hits: Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, Ninja Gaiden Sigma

Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriots for $29.99? Sounds good to me! I'll be sure to pick it up. I am a little disappointed that Uncharted isn't on that list, but I'm sure it'll come to pass soon enough.

I'll still hold my breath for an extended version of MGS 4, like they did with every MGS before.

I root around for the best deals for games so it is pretty easy to find those games for less than that already, brand new. Still, to those people who don't root around these are a good deal and would make a fine addition to a games collection.

MGS4 for 30 bucks is a steal of a deal. Worth every penny of 60 imo.

Metal gear solid for $30. that should put some butts in the seats. This for any gamer is simply highway robbery. Now a price drop is what sony really needs but it is a step in the right direction to just mark down a game that could have been $60 for another year or two like they did with uncharted. Then again it is in the 160 GIG package. Otherwise that is the only title on this list with the exception of R&C tools of destruction.
