Comic-Con 07: Lost: The Videogame First Look

The game based on the megapopular ABC TV series is unveiled at Comic-Con 2007, and we've got the first look.

Official Trailer

Check out the first official trailer for Lost: The Videogame.

If you wanted a seat anywhere near the front of the massive auditorium that housed the Comic-Con 2007 Lost panel discussion, you needed to arrive about an hour and a half before it began. As it stood, we managed to squeeze our way into the auditorium a mere 30 minutes before writers from the hugely popular ABC television show hit the stage, and we were forced to the back of room. Before the Lost fans could delve into the complex mythology of their favorite show with the series creators, the crowd was treated to a brief teaser of the upcoming Lost video game from Ubisoft.

Though no actual gameplay details were revealed during the brief footage shown, we understand that you will be playing as a survivor of the downed flight 815, though exactly which survivor is unclear. In certain shots, it looked like you might be playing Jack (portrayed by Matthew Fox), but until details are released, we won't know for sure. What we did notice was the hero doing lots of exploring, including lighting some torches in a mysterious cave--in one scene, the same cave floor seemed to have a cable running the length of the cave floor, which eventually led the main character to a room full of mysterious-looking machinery. In fact, technology should be all over the gameworld of Lost; in one scene we thought we saw Jorge Garcia's Hurley staring at a bunch of radio receivers.

Puzzles look to play a huge role in Lost: The Videogame. At one point, we caught a glimpse of what appeared to be a complex circuit board, which seems like an ideal opportunity to introduce a puzzle-based minigame. In addition, different symbols marked on objects featured in the footage seem to suggest a sort of code system that will challenge you to unlock what those symbols mean.

That said, it won't all be puzzle-solving and symbol-cracking in Lost: The Videogame. As the trailer continued, we saw numerous shots of the main character running through the various tropical settings found on the island. Expect to see lots of cameos of your favorite Lost stars in the game--we're certain we saw Josh Holloway's Sawyer lounging on a beachside easy chair in one clip. As for enemies, Ubisoft has so far unveiled only that you will be battling the smoke monster in the game, though how or how often remains a mystery.

Much like the show on which it's based, there's still a lot of mystery surrounding Lost: The Videogame, currently due for release in Februrary 2008. How the game will tie into the increasingly complicated storyline of the show remains to be seen, though we suspect figuring this out will be half the fun for diehard Lost fanatics. As the mysteries unravel in the coming months, we'll be on hand to bring you the latest on the game.

The series are great but the game...
I wouldn't hold my breath but I would really like if the game becomes a bit more like the series itself rather then just a weak story adventure with bunch of unrelated puzzles.

This is the only TV show I watch... I'll probably buy the game as long as it scores better than a 6.5

I just watched the extended feature for this game on the LOST season 3 DVDs. Its definitely looking promising. Great story from the Lost writers combined with great gameplay from Ubisoft - has the potential to be awesome.

As a fanatic of the television series, this is my most anticipated game for '08. I am thrilled to hear that Ubisoft, a company that has been reliable time and time again in giving us quality games, is giving us Lost. About the enemies in the game, I don't know how they can do this game without Ben. I really hope he will be featured in the game. As someone I really "love to hate" he is one of my favorite characters on the show.

Previews really don't show off how a game will look at release date so don't knock the graphics just yet. However, this game looks like it will be a really open ended RPG styled game. hopefully Ubisoft will work closely with the lost writers and pull off a good game, hopefully...
BTW I'm a big fan of the show as well

I'm a huge fan of the show, but, quite frankly, from what I've seen the Lost game seems underwhelming. The character models are just plain ugly and look like something that would appear on a last-gen console. I also noticed a lot of subpar textures on trees/cave walls/etc. On the positive side, the overlapping shadows cast by the jungle foliage looked up to par with current gen technology. Still, I'll probably just sit this one out unless it turns out to be outstanding (which I highly doubt it will). I've learned in the past (the hard way) that good tv shows/movies don't equate to good games (with the exception of Peter Jackson's phenomenal King Kong game).

Instead of making Lost into a videogame, Ubisoft should've made Supernatural into one . Now that's a series that practically screams to be made into a game...

The game looks pretty good, in a Tomb Raider sort of way. I'm a big fan of the TV show, so I hope the developers take the time needed to create a game that captures the feel of it's source material perfectly. I've got high hopes, the trailer looks promising.
