E3 06: Afrika First Look

Sony unveils a new game featuring lots of lifelike African animals, and that's about all the company revealed at this point.

LOS ANGELES--What is Afrika? Well, all we know of this new PlayStation 3 game revealed during Sony's Electronic Entertainment Expo press conference is that it features lots and lots of African animals, rendered in lifelike detail as they go about their daily lives. We saw rhinoceroses, giraffes, zebras, caribou, wildebeests, and cheetahs as they roamed the African plains and watering holes. The graphics were certainly very nice, and you could see everything from the armored segments on the rhino down to the chewing motions on the giraffe as it feasted on leaves high up in trees. And that's about it. In fact, the game's full title won't even be Afrika, it seems, since the trailer also mentioned that "Afrika" was only a "working title." As soon as we learn more, such as who is making the game and who is publishing it, we'll let you know.

I think this is going to be a cool game. Looks like a photographer's game. The developers can even think about all new series of photographer games like: Wildlife photography, Crime reporting, Sports etc.
Maybe its going to be a new genre..who knows?

    Here is developer's site: http://www.rhino-studios.co.jp/
Some review about the released game(in asia) can be found here:

First when I heard about this game I just WOWed into the air.
Then I saw the first video and pics and started drooling.
But I had no clue whatsoever what kind of game it will be.
I started to create som cool scenarios that it is a animal simulator.
And maybe a possibility for us to really learn about the problems animals get with hunters, nature disasters, global warming and so on. Maybe a nice encyclopedia...etc
And started to get cool sequel fantasies about different areas around the world. Like jungle and arctic areas.
Wow... This is one of the BIG problems.. NEVER read on and start fantasies within your head 'cause they rarely live up to them.

    Ok back to "Afrika"
So when I started to learn what kind of game this will be I crashed down from the skies.

this kind of graphics and all you are is a animal national geographic photographer?.
Like a pokemon hunter but for real animals.

Ok the game hasn't arrived yet so it can certainly surprise us.
But I still hope for a animal simulator like the old games "Lion" & "Wolf"
I really liked them and hope I like to see something similiar. Maybe an update or addon

Afrika is still super Cool Next Gen graphics!!!

My bets on an Endless Ocean type game personally. But then again that doesn't appeal to everyone. Endless Ocean was cool though.

ok, after posting, I just watched the Tokyo Game Show 07 trailer...

so I guess its not quite as cool as I thought.... but, I swear, the damn japanese are so corny some times, they just don't know when to stop. That trailer might have actually been cool, but they throw in the cheesiest John Williams after a bender on MIDI crap fanfare and effectively ruin the whole ambience of the experience....

    was that necessary? Really? really?....

playing out scenarios of life and death on the Serengeti would be a dream come true. Tactically controlling a pack of lions on a hunt would be sweet; just imagine: lurking through the tall grass, staying downwind of the wildebeasts, watching the prey for a young or weak one to go after, sending out strategic commands to the other lionesses in the hunt, and then bam...going for the kill. That would be sweet. It would also be fun to be in the herd of game, trying to escape the super predators....

why hasn't this been done yet?
