Soldier of Fortune, MOH: Airborne golden, dated

Activision's hyperviolent shooter arrives for Xbox 360 and PC November 13, PS3 version a week later; EA's WWII plane-hopper touches down on Sony's console November 21.

The first-person shooter genre has been nothing if not well represented this year. Today, release dates were confirmed for two more entries in the genre to hit retail shelves before the year runs its course.

Activision has announced Soldier of Fortune: Payback has gone gold and will arrive on the Xbox 360 and PC on November 13, with the PlayStation 3 version following a week later on November 20. Also trailing its Xbox 360 and PC counterparts, EA's Medal of Honor: Airborne has wrapped development and is slated to arrive on the PS3 on November 21.

As detailed in GameSpot's recent hands-on with Activision's mercenary-minded shooter, Payback continues the gory tradition of its predecessors. Already banned in Australia, Payback offers a highly detailed graphics engine, featuring bodies that can be broken into more than just heads, legs, arms, and torsos. Despite being developed by Activision's Value Studio, the M for Mature-rated shooter is listed at the standard price point of $59.99 on the Xbox 360 and PS3. However, the PC version lands at a marginally cut rate of $39.99.

With the Xbox 360 and PC versions having been out since the beginning of September, EA is finally pushing the PS3 version of Medal of Honor: Airborne out of its perfectly good development house. The game follows Allied paratroopers as they go behind the lines in occupied Europe during WWII, and features free-roaming action as players decide their point of entry and primary targets. For an idea of what to expect from EA's latest WWII shooter, check out GameSpot's review of the PC or Xbox 360 version of the game. MOH: Airborne is rated T for Teen and will retail for $59.99.

Wow, I had no idea that SoF was coming that soon. I thought it was a long way off since we just saw the first video of it a week or so ago.

MoH:A was big disappointment, maybe it was the fact that WWII got over-done while the game was still being made, but it really failed to deliver what was supposed to be an open environment.

To PS3 owners. Dont buy MoH Airborne. It blows hard. Should have gotten a 4.0-5.0 rating really. The one really (and i meen really) good thing it has is the jump at the last mission. Looking down on that tower from the air is really cool. The mission itself is crap though so that doesnt help hehe

Regardless of whether Activision Value ruins SOF, one thing is certain: it's going to be better than MOH Airborne.

MOH:Airborne was a joke, so totally not worth the extra £10 i paid to get it bundled with my 360, so i traded it for Call of Duty 2 instead. (Obviously not a straight swap lol, i had £20 leftover)

SOF could be a good laugh though, been years since i played a SOF game.

moh airbourne wasn't wortht tthe hype that tehy built around it. ps3 only users you should play a demo and see how boring it is and how arcadey the controls feel. if that's your thign go ahead but i think that the parachuting in part was overhyped.

I'm so pleased SOF: PB has been made...and I'm so pleased it's so close to release! So many great games to choose from this month after such a long dry spell.

It takes this long to finish MOH:A for the PS3? Wow developing for PS3 must really be hard, even EA need 2 extra month. Someone need to do something about this.

I miss the days when SoF2 on XBL was alive and running well. I hope SoF3 could bring that back but too many other AAA titles that'll steal its thunder, if it had any.
