Kuju prepping Redwood Falls for PS3

Independent UK development house is working on FPS for next-gen Sony console; game features enemies with regenerative powers.

During the Play UK 2006 video game seminar hosted by the United Kingdom Embassy in Tokyo, Kuju Entertainment creative director Tancred Dyke-Wells revealed that his company is working on Redwood Falls, a first-person shooter for the PlayStation 3.

Kuju showed off a tech demo of Redwood Falls during his presentation. According to a report by Famitsu.com, the gory sampling showed a man getting shot repeatedly by gunfire. The man's flesh would wear away, revealing bones and other innards behind open wounds. But the man didn't keel over and die after all the injected lead; instead, his body slowly healed until he was fully recovered.

Wells told Famitsu.com that the human model could have been created even more realistically so that even internal organs could be blown away. However, he held back from doing so this time around, since the main focus of the tech demo was to show off Kuju's development prowess.

According to Wells, Redwood Falls will feature plenty of regenerating enemies. The actual game will feature tougher enemies that can heal themselves and transform into more powerful forms and can even manipulate their bones and use them as weapons.

Kuju is currently looking for a publisher for Redwood Falls. No further information was given about the game.

We double checked with our Japanese correspondent on the Famitsu article and it does indeed report that the game is in development for PlayStation 3. If you aren't seeing it come up in the not-terribly-reliable BabelFish or Google translated pages, try looking for "play st Shaun 3" or a similar approximated phonetic spelling of the name.

For the record, I own and love my X360 (Can't wait for Fight Night Round 3 to come out). But I must note that I checked the translation and it does indeed seem to indicate that this is a demo for the PS3.

The online translators (at least in my experience) always change the Japanese equivalent of "Playstation 3" to "place t Shaun 3". If you read the article through bablefish or the google translator you will see this all through the article.

The screenshots look OK, nothing mind blowing. It would be nice to see some actual video of the demo to get a better idea of what they are describing. In any case, I would expect that either the 360 or PS3 should be capable of what they are describing in this demo.

But...how is this so sure to be on PS3? In the whole article they didn't mention about PS3 or anything.

Bring on the gibs… Now if they can make the removed bits and gibs transform into other small critters that would swarm after you, I'd buy it today

Don't forget all those sweet I/O ports the PS3 has. You can use all kinds of different memory stick types (available at any local electronics shop) and who can say whether it will support Mouse + Keyboard or not? My money says yes, it will. Perhaps even via wireless Bluetooth (faster than 802 wi-fi) like the controllers. PS3-haters are out of their minds. The thing is going to be an engineering marvel and it'll still play all your DVDs, PS2 games and Blu-ray movies. There's no fanboyism; a simple admission that Sony's game division rocks their world and PS3 will be supported like gangbuster.

Commariodore64, aren't ps3 and x360 next gen consoles? And as to being misinformed, it was due to a simple oversight you can't be right all the time, everyone makes mistakes, we're all human...blah blah blah you know the rest. But thanks for letting us know the facts and I hope you brought it to the attention of the editors. (P.S. I can't read jpnese)

    THE POWER OF THE PS3

Ps3 is gonna be another disappointment just like the ps2. Right before the ps2 came out they had all these demos and movies of upcoming games and they all sucked during in-game gameplay. The dreamcast ,gamecube, and xbox killed ps2's graphics. Its ironic it turned out to be the most popular system. I'm not gonna believe a damn thing sony says until I actually see real-time gameplay with these graphics they promise. There really isn't one fps on ps2 that is worth talkin about because the ps2 isn't strong enough to handle great fps like halo and metroid. The only reason sony is still in the game is that it has so many diverse games, it sure isn't because of its graphical prowness. As for this next gen. of games, every game should run at 60 fps. Anything less should be trashed.

I'll stop 'bashing' when the editors admit fault and/or make a correction. They are stating something as gospel that is COMPLETELY unfactual. AND they even link to the source that DISPROVES their content!?

This game IN FACT is a TECH demo runnning on a PC (NOT a PS3 or 360 Dev kit) to show their new game engine TARGETED for NEXT GEN CONSOLES. Not CONSOLE. IN FACT, the PS3 is NEVER mentioned!?!?!?!?

I guess perhaps if you enjoy being misinformed then feel free to cut them some slack. Personally, I like to take responsibilty for my mistakes and dutifuly make proper corrections.
