E3 '07: Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga Impressions
We get a first look at some of the features being added to this compilation of the two Lego Star Wars games.
The first Lego Star Wars was a surprise hit, and its sequel was just plain a hit. But there are lots of PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii owners who haven't played one or both of these fun games. Luckily for them, Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga is headed to those very consoles on November 6th.
As you can probably imagine, The Complete Saga is the first two Lego Star Wars games in one package. But Traveller's Tales isn't just throwing them on a disc and calling it a day. There are lots of new things to look forward to, several of which we saw in the first level of Episode One when Qui-Gon used his new Force move called "droid bowling" to pick up and toss an enemy droid into a group of foes. Then he put together a small hovering vehicle that wasn't in the original game and blew away the rest of the droids in the room. There are also new power-ups, like the one we saw that increased the power and attack range of Qui-Gon's lightsaber. We were told there would be new levels as well. These changes were obvious, but many won't be quite as noticeable and will be small tweaks to improve the gameplay experience.
Each version of the game will have its own exclusive content as well. The Xbox 360 will, of course, have achievements, and the PlayStation 3 will make use of the Sixaxis' motion-sensing abilities and run in 1080p. The Wii version will also have motion-sensing controls--for the first time you'll be able to swing a controller around to control your lightsaber. Both the PS3 and the Wii will let you control vehicles via motion controls, too. If you don't feel like waving the Wii Remote you can use more traditional controls, but you're rewarded for using the motion-sensing controls with more spectacular effects and increased damage.
If you're unlucky enough to have not yet played any of the Lego Star Wars games and you can wait until November, the additions and changes found in The Complete Saga should make it a package worth waiting for.
