God of War Collection strikes PS3 Nov. 17

High-def one-two punch of PS2 blockbusters arrives in stores next month; each game to have its own slate of trophies.

While game publishers frequently use the holiday release window for their biggest titles of the year, next month Sony will focus on its biggest games of previous years. The company today announced that God of War Collection, a high-def compilation of the first two God of War games, will debut on the PlayStation 3 November 17.

The games' 720p visual overhaul won't be the only new feature enticing gamers to trek through Kratos' first two adventures again. Sony is also including a full slate of trophies for each game. Each copy of the game will also include a code to download a demo of God of War III from the PlayStation Network months before the full game's March release.

When it launched on the PlayStation 2 in 2005, the first God of War drew critical accolades and commercial success, selling more than 2.4 million units in the US alone. In 2007, God of War II drew similar high praise from reviewers and sold nearly 2 million units domestically despite being on a legacy platform. A PSP prequel, God of War: Chains of Olympus, has sold more than 800,000 units domestically since its 2008 debut.

A full list of the trophies for God of War Collection is available on Sony's official PlayStation blog.

I have one of the 60Gb PS3's that could NOT play PS2 games. Will I be able to play the games on this disc even though I have a PS3 that is incapable of playing actual PS2 game discs?

I own a 360, which I love, but I just picked up a PS3 for the exclusive titles (like GOW) and I'm so glad I did. As I said I still love my Xbox, but the exclusives for the PS3 were much better than I gave them credit for and I will stop talking trash about the PS being inferior.

So far I still like the Xbox live a little better, (maybe cause all my friends have a 360 and I don't know anyone with a PS) but I'm still learning the PS network.

Looking forward to 2010 with all the amazing titles for BOTH systems, but now I don't have to get pissed when I see Uncharted, GOW, or Metal Gear and wonder how cool they would be to play.

yeah dude not to be an ass but thats just stupid salarian, first off i absolutely hate seeing people arguing with fan boys on websites but im sick of it, second ps3 with out a doubt is better, me and all my freinds own both btw i own a gamming pc too, but yeah ps3 has a way faster and more crisp graphics engine the framerate faster and the sound is more clear and intense. third there are a lot more console only titles for ps3 than 360 and all of them are masterpeices, for example the 360 may have console only titles but not all of em are good, in fact most are terrible and get taken in by terrible studios and are made worse. 4th point here look every game could migrate to another console or come out for both but they stay because a company has rights to their studios. example every one knows now that its a fact microsoft payed bethsada for the dlc for fallout3 to be exclusive same with rockband and grand theft auto now the fifth GTA too, and with out a doubt there are more studios microsoft is striking deals with we just dont know it yet, look its all about money and power for microsoft plus what are you paying a fee to play online for, you get that if not more on the ps3 along with better graphics engines more titles free internet free blueray player free online play and communication... i rest my fuc4in case bro!

@SalarianChemist-did you even watch any of E3? They even announced Final Fantasy 14 is coming 2010 ps3 only and its only gonna be online. and I'm not calling you a fanboy for saying GOW3 won't sell as much cause you never know. But from looking at your profile you rate multiplatform games for both the 360 and ps3 you give the ps3 1 point lower than the 360(Ex. Tekken 6 for 360 9.0 Tekken 6 for ps3 8.0). I think anyone would believe that to be a fanboy.

I'd like to respond to what you had to say.

2010 should not be labeled as the "year of the PS3" any more than 2007, 2008, or 2009 were.

Also, 2010 is going to be by far the best year the Xbox 360 has had yet. In fact 2010 is actually being officially marketed as "The year of the Xbox 360 relaunch."

The reason for this makes a reference to high profile attractions such as Project Natal, Halo: Reach, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Mass Effect 2, further marketing and extra cars for the recently released Forza Motorsport 3, Fable 3, Killer Instinct 3, Perfect Dark, Shadow Complex 2, along with other software projects for Xbox 360 and Xbox Live Arcade.

There are even rumors circulating that the Xbox 360 will receive Grand Theft Auto 5 as an exclusive. Along with another rumor that says Microsoft is negotiating to purchase the exclusive rights to Call of Duty in 2010.

So, before anyone goes out advertising something as "the year of a console," it is usually a good idea to have games to back it up with.

Remember, according to the sales information provided by Gamespot, Resistance 2 sold less than the first Resistance game. It is reasonable to conclude that Resistance 3 will sell even less than Resistance 2.

Final Fantasy 14 is also going to be released for Xbox 360 and PC, so that game really doesn't matter in terms of "being the year" of either console. Also, Final Fantasy 14 has virtually no chance of being released in 2010.

The chances of seeing Killzone 3 in 2009 or "any" year that Sony actually announces it are about as good as the odds of seeing Killzone 2 released when Sony originally announced (e.g., not that good). But in all honesty, this wouldn't be a big factor anyways. Remember, according to the information Gamespot provided, Killzone 2 was only on the market three months before it was already being outsold by games that had been on the market for 21 months.

Although God of War 2 has a reputation for being inferior to the first God of War game and sold less than the first God of War game, it still sold an impressive number of units. I'm sure God of War 3 will be a top-seller for the PS3 in 2010.

I will do my best to "stop being a fanboy," as you say. However, as my comment here points out, I am simply writing based on information provided by Gamespot. I always give credit where credit is due, so don't worry about it buddy. I'm sure both the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii will all have a great year for 2010. I'm just saying it isn't smart to officially say "this is the year," because that is never a good idea unless you know for sure the games can make it for their release.

@SalarianChemist FANBOY ALERT. =the 360 is not a god so stop treating it like one? Why do you think so many people since the price drop have got the ps3 over 360? Because of a blu-ray player combined with a game system, plus every 360 fanboy even has admitted that 2010 will be the year of the PS3. Why? Because of MAG, God Of War 3, Final Fantasy 14 online, Resistance 3, possibly Killzone 3. And you have no idea what your talking about because Resistance 2, Killzone 2, and God of war are all good games and I reserved this and got the demo. There are no "Framerate drops" so your wrong about that too. Stop being a fanboy okay?

This is a must have for the collection. The Blu-Ray enhancement just makes it more desirable.
