Bayonetta demo spearing 360, PS3 in Japan - Report

More than a few games have succumbed to the urge to flee the 2009 holiday release window in the hopes of finding more receptive audiences during the first part of 2010. One such game is Bayonetta, a new intellectual property from Sega and MadWorld studio Platinum Games. Having previously scheduled the game for a late 2009 release in the US, Sega said in July that it was now targeting a January 2010 release in a bid to find "the optimum release time in the Western markets."

With the game scheduled for an October release for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in Japan, Sega reportedly confirmed as part of an event in the region over the weekend that a demo for the stylized action adventure is en route. As reported by AndriaSang, producer Yusuke Hashimoto stated that Platinum is "currently hard at work on it," though no specific time frame was mentioned.

Interestingly, Hashimoto indicated that the demo will be more than just a sampler, offering original content that will somehow tie in with the full version of the game. "It will be more than just a demo that's pulled from the middle of the game," he reportedly said. "We'd like to make it so that those who have already bought the game will make new discoveries if they play the demo."

Hashimoto did not indicate whether the demo would see a worldwide release, and Sega of America had not returned requests for comment as of press time. For more information, check out GameSpot's previous coverage of Bayonetta.

    That's the one thing I don't know about with this game... at least Dante was fighting against his father... but Bayonetta's fighting for the wrong side. There is nothing redeeming about her character at all. She is EVIL incarnate. So the question is, who exactly is she fighting? A witch fighting off demons doesn't exactly sound like it makes much sense. Am I looking at this from the wrong perspective or something? At least when you look at DMC 4, Nero was on the right side trying to help people but Bayonetta looks like she's out to just destroy all of creation. Cif3r: The reason why some things look the same is because the creator of DMC created Bayonetta as well. By the way, was that James Earl Jones' voice I heard in the opening?

    They need to fix the freakin PS3 version before they ship it here.

    No way in hell I'm importing this because I can't read Japanese texts.

    The fact that a demo is in the works *AND* that it's filled with something people won't see in the retail version of the game IS news that people outside of Japan would like to hear about. I already know from the trailers that I'll be picking up this game, but now I know that if the demo comes over here, I'll definitely grab it. And not just for a sample of what the game is like, but also for the additional content. Plus sometimes news like this is good at driving up support and demand from gamers so that the company knows if it's worth it or not to release it elsewhere.

    I'll agree with the part you said about US companies. However, The US gaming market is more than the entire population of Japan(128 million) to us gaming population(170 million). That is the reason I am upset. Gamespot was loving enough to put this in an article. I have posted the link.

    @Gameboy2k

    The physical size of the land of Japan is small, but the amount of gamers isn't that much less than the amount of gamers in America. There could even be MORE gamers in Japan than US. And no one said the demo is not coming to America. Only that Sega Of US has not yet commented on it. And us being 2 - 4 years behind Japan has nothing to do with Japan. That's the US game companies' fault for taking so long to decide to import a particular game, or just taking so long to complete the process of the import. And if a certain game or demo doesn't come out ever in America, again that's not the fault of the Japanese gaming market. That's the America companies deciding not to bring it over. So blame Sega Of USA if we don't get a Bayonetta demo. Either way, you know we're eventually getting the full game so just be patient.

    Please explain why it's not in the US? I'm sick of Japan determining the gaming market. Japan is the size of NJ, whereas you have 400 million people in the US. Please lets release where the greater marketshare is and get this game in our hands. I'm sick of being 2 and 4 years behind Japan.

    i applaud the idea.. means a little extra development effort but may offer a more juicy introduction and a more solid hook for the game!

    Cool idea, but I don't get why publishers think January is a better time to release games (in NA anyway; rest of the world may be different). I don't even begin to look for more games to buy after Christmas until March.

    That's kinda cool. Everyone can experience demos for the most part and it would be great to play something that won't be in the game but is apart of the game. Some of us can't buy game on a whim initially and at least we will get to play an important piece.
