Capcom arms 1942: Joint Strike

Backbone Entertainment-developed remake of classic arcade shooter arriving on XBLA, PSN on July 23, 24, respectively, for $10.

Capcom has been hitting its stable of classic franchises hard as of late, delivering to Microsoft and Sony's online platforms such arcade-inspired hits as Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, and Bionic Commando Rearmed. Today, Capcom said that its next classic redux, 1942: Joint Strike, has counted out its whole nine yards and will take wing on Xbox Live beginning July 23, with the PlayStation Network edition arriving as part of Sony's weekly Thursday update on July 24.

Drawing its inspiration liberally from Capcom's classic 1984 shoot-'em-up 1942, Joint Strike features the franchise's signature vertical-scrolling 2D action, in which would-be aviators sail the unfriendly skies in "a seemingly WWII-like era." Emphasizing this break from historical accuracy, Capcom notes that Joint Strike will feature new weapons and power-ups.

Capcom has once again tapped Backbone Entertainment to handle this arcade throwback. Joint Strike brings the 194X series into the high-definition age, and will incorporate both 3D art and a widescreen format. The game will also feature both local and online co-op play for two, and as noted in GameSpot's hands-on with the game, the developer has tempered the frenetic shoot-'em-up with four difficulty settings.

1942: Joint Strike will be available for $9.99 (800 Microsoft points).

@JamesSoprano- that was a dumb thing to say. Games are supposed to be bought to play them and experience their action and figure out their puzzles. Not for the cookies you'll get.
I hope this game is a success because I would like to see Raiden, Gradius, R-type, and Contra make a come back! Tough games that even newbies to the series who set the game to easy will have a hard time passing on the first try. I still remember my fingures getting numb trying to play these type of games back on the nintendo....ahhhhhh!!!

James, so you base your game buying on Trophies?

boy wouldn't it be nice if they released a trophy system for this for the PS3 ..... but i doubt it .. if theirs no demo then i'm not buying but i would consider if trophies were involved but since they didn't say their was .. i'm gonna assume they won't bother putting in the patch for it later on down the road

Capcom is becoming king on Xbox Live Arcade. Commando 3 is awesome. Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix beta is tight. 1942: Joint Strike looks very promising. But most of all Bionic Commando Rearmed is the game I look forward to the most. It looks better than the new current gen Bionic Commando. I know Capcom has a huge classic game collection and hopefully Capcom keeps on rocking my Live Arcade for years to come.

Bump this, where's Street Fighter HD remix and when is it coming out! How long does it take to re-draw a game for HD Visuals?? I cant wait to try it out on the PS3 controller, should be almost like back in the old days with the Ninendo system!

Whoever did the graphics for this game need glasses. Some screenshots are blurry as hell.

Sweet! But I have a better idea. Give us Final Fight, with online play, HD graphics and remixed sound! That'd be awesome.

Fond memories of the original and it's sequel, 1943. Hopefully, this latest version will live up to it's name.

Hopefully they kept and updated the same soundtrack as the original. That was the best thing about it.
