Shippin' Out February 4-8: Devil May Cry 4, Turok

Demon and dinosaur hunters prowl with Assassin's Creed DS, Twisted Metal: Head On PS2, Culdcept Saga X360, and multiplatformers Spiderwick Chronicles, American Idol Encore.

To the chagrin of a vociferous vocal minority within the PlayStation 3 camp, Capcom places the final nail in the coffin of the once-PS3-exclusive Devil May Cry 4 this week with the fourth installment of the game terrorizing the Xbox 360 and the PS3. (A PC version is also expected later this year.) The first original game in the brawler series since 2005's DMC3: Dante's Awakening, DMC4 follows new protagonist Nero as he vanquishes hordes of infernal minions with gusto. A demo for the game is currently available on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live.

Demon hunters won't be the only ones on the prowl this week. Disney's Touchstone Studios is set to revive time-traveler-turned-spacefarer Joseph Turok this week on the 360 and PS3. (A PC version is expected this spring.) Once again, Turok is out big-game hunting for reptiles of the prehistoric sort, and is taking out an army of homo sapiens war criminals along the way. Altair will also be tracking prey this week in the Nintendo DS version of Ubisoft's money maker Assassin's Creed in Altair's Chronicles, a prequel to the console version of the game.

A return to God of War director David Jaffe's roots, Twisted Metal: Head On: Extra Twisted Edition is Eat Sleep Play's first project and arrives on the PS2 this week. While the game is technically a port of a near-three-year-old PlayStation Portable game, Jaffe's studio has loaded the disc up with a host of bonus goodies, and will be offering the game at a budget price of $19.99. For the PC, Galactic Civilization developer Stardock will be launching sci-fi RTS Sins of a Solar Empire.

But it isn't all blood, guts, and mayhem this week, as Sierra Entertainment and Konami are coming through with a few family-friendly multiplatform titles. The Spiderwick Chronicles, based on the series of children's books by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black, brings action and adventure to the 360, PS2, DS, and PC, while Karaoke Revolution Presents: American Idol Encore lands on the 360, PS2, and Wii. Also coming in at a budget price this week is Namco Bandai's collectible card/board game Culdcept Saga for the Xbox 360.

Microsoft and Nintendo's downloadable stores will be stocked with a few new products this week. On the Wii's Virtual Console, side-scrolling shooter Operation Wolf arrives for 500 Wii points ($5), while Tetris-inspired puzzler Columns III runs for 800 Wii points ($8). Arriving this Wednesday to Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade will be Poker Smash, a puzzle game where players must clear rows by making poker hands. Developed by indie studio Void Star Creations, Poker Smash costs 800 Microsoft points ($10).

No Devil May Cry 4 me until after my wedding. Turok looks great in it's screens but I wonder if the game has the same glamour.

It's so funny that you know a game will suck if Gamespot doesn't review it the day it comes out or soon after. They must have some kind of agreement with the game companies to stimulate impulse buys by delaying poor reviews.

Looks like a very promising week all-round. Not nearly enough PS3 titles, but DMC 4 and Turok are a good start and more will be coming including exclusives.

Wow we finally got another Nobunaga's ambition. I've always felt that that series was beter than Romance of the 3 kingdoms.

Turok looks pretty good. Hope it's better than Turok Evolution. TE stated out great, then it DEvolved into crap as the game progressed.

DMC4 for me,turok looks crap (visually) and plays crap, unless the demo was an older version of the full retail game.

Yes Turok looks really weak ! The only cool thing is a few killing styles. The maps/ envioronments are boring and un-interactive. The game is more about trial and error then actual strategy ( you will know what i mean when you get to the spider tank and the T-Rex ), the battles aren't even fun. AI is all over the place and the multiplayer sounds like a cool thing but it's nothing to write home about.

If Turok fought Nero and Dante, would he win?
